Got a call today from Orange offering me a loyalty bonus of 4 per month for 12 months. The only downside was if I decided to upgrade and take out a new contract then it would stop.

They knew I had a Treo 600 and he asked if I knew that there was a new Treo 650 about to be released. Didn't say exactly when though
  2.    #182
are they saying that if you then upgrade to the 650 you will lose the 4 pm ?

It's amazing what you can find on the web.

Here's a draft palmone press release, and as you can see, the date has been changed from March to Q2.

I guess we still have some waiting to do for an official orange version!

I got the 4 call yesterday too. I said yes.

I'm planning to threaten to leave orange to get a free upgrade. It usually works

I believe Orange may release the Treo 650 on March 31st!

Last day of Q1, could save a little bit of face
    Thought of the day :
No sense being pessimistic, it probably wouldn't work anyway

    jusy saw this:

    50 with a 30per month contract - not bad!
  8. #188
Be careful with the price quoted on Mobiles.co.uk. If you read the small print they claim it's an estimate as they dont know the real price yet. I will be very surprised if it's much below the 200 mark.

    Here's what they say:
Pre-orders: We often advertise products in advance of them being available to purchase. Please note that all prices, deals and offers for pre-order or "coming soon" products are shown as a guide only. The actual agreed price and offer will be that in force on the day of despatch. You may cancel a pre-order at any time prior to despatch.

...and WHY aren't Palmone promoting the 650 on their UK website yet (http://euro.palmone.com/uk/) ?

Probably don't want to let on to people who may otherwise be uninformed enough to buy a 600 with the 650 imminent, they must have one hell of a stockpile to shift!

Confusingly if you go http://www.palmone.co.uk/ you get redirected to the US site loaded with 650 content!

I hope they launch soon - some of my colleagues see my increasing frustration/desparation as funny...

I agree with the small print reply above - also be aware that I've found extremely similar pages & prices on other sites - it appears these people have a lot of aliases! I'm not suggesting they aren't legit but...

Why am I not surprised! Set low expectations and you won't be disappointed.

Still denying the existence of a phone that's due to launch in UK within the next decade... hopefully.

    Coming Soon..............zzz

What did change in the new Orange catalogue available in the shops is that the 650 isn't labelled as 'coming soon' but as 'new'... work that one out!

The "Coming Soon" section on the Orange website let you leave an email address so that they could let you know when it's available. This is now no longer an option, so something has changed ?

I registered as per the above, plus I spoke to an upgrade lady who made a diary note to ring me when it's out, so I'm waiting

Well, I did sign up for an e-mail on the Orange site but I haven't got one yet. It is a very long tortuous wait!

Probably filled several Terabytes of data storage with registrations and considered it an inconvenience so disabled it rather than a big hint that we're all a little impatient!

Made another of my frequent calls to Orange today requesting a release date for the 650. No date obviously, but the man in upgrades did say that a friend of his is actually testing a Treo 650- and has been for 2.5 weeks. He informed me that testing usually takes 4 to 5 weeks.

Oranges system now states available second quarter. Until very recently it stated February (bearing in mind it was showing February release all through March!).

It seems we may have to be patient for a bit longer!
It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer- Albert Einstein.

I suprised (well, maybe not!) that PalmOne are not a little bit concerned by the extended delay for the 650 to reach the UK market. I really would have thought they would/should have been pushing for it to come out as soon as possible...

The bottom line seems to be conflicting signals from a range of different people within Orange. Any time within Q2 seems to be as good a guess as any. I still hope it is sooner rather than later though!

Does anyone know if the 650 works with a BMW bluetooth in car system? I am on Orange in the UK and the 650 is soon to be released (I hope)
  19. #199
I don't know personally, but you might try:
    http://bluetoothcar.typepad.com/main/

I seem to recall there is another site out there dedicated to BMW bluetooth, but I can't remember specifically.

I know that the Treo 650 is supported with the Parrot kits - which is what I will hopefully use if the 650 eventually shows itself in the UK! - however, some people have said that it does not work fully. I gather that this means that the signal/battery strength and caller ID is not communicated to the main unit.

I also seem to remember that there was some in-depth discussion of bluetooth car kits on another Treocentral forum.

I'm not at all suprised about PalmOne's apathy. They seem to have a very cavalier approach to their loyal customer base.

Note that none of the 'indicators' have changed since 2 april:
    * www.Palmone.com/uk still in denial re existence of 650
    * www.Palmone.co.uk directing us to an American treo650 page!!!!
    * www.orange.co.uk still showing coming soon...

Reading around all the boards I'm getting the impression that PalmOne have released a smartphone which really doesn't hack it in 2005 - in fact it's only the unit the 600 should have been 2 years ago. I look at alternatives from SonyEricsson, Motorola and Nokia and wonder whether maybe Symbian is the place to be after all!

Fast losing patience with the whole thing...
