We are planning a trip to Shanghai, China and Kyoto, Japan. Notwithstanding the high international roaming and data charges, can someone who has done so tell me if their AT&T GSM Pre worked at those locations?

    Thanks in advance!!

I have Sprint (CDMA) and can use it in downtown Osaka. You will need to call AT&T and set up your phone for roaming internationally. Many of my coworkers who travel on business in Asia using GSM report no problems unless in rural areas.

    safe travels.

You can get a prepaid SIM card anywhere on the planet.
It will work with your Pre Plus, but you won't get 3G. G only.

The "anywhere on the planet" comment is not entirely correct. Here we are concerned with Japan and that country does not have any GSM operator. It only has PDC, CDMA2000, PHS and W-CDMA operators.
