But, I got a question. I am getting an unlocked Pre which wasn't activated before. I will be in the Middle East, so no official carrier or country for that matters. Can I activate it anyways?

If I can, what are the shortcomings of doing so in an official/unsupported country?

    Regards,
You can activate it, but you may not be able to access the app catalog.

I'm writing now from a pre I activated that way with no service.

Basically, the phone will never be activated?

I know about the tool. But, the Adv. confg. is interesting. Any links?

I can activate my phone with my SIM. However, after that can I use the Adv. confg. to access the app catalog?

Am I understanding things correctly? lol?

    Check this thread:
    http://forums.precentral.net/gsm-pre...equencies.html

Navigate to step 3. You can see, also, step 1 which explains how to bypass activation and create a profile over WiFi.

    Good luck,

    Good luck,
    it's done!

I asked GFN in the last page. I did a full erase and then created a profile over the 3G connection though. I'm sure that'll incur some charges but nevermind.

Thanks for pointing it out though.
