I am in the Marines and am moving to Okinawa Japan for 2 years. I am wondering if I can use my Sprint Pre (or future webos device) on the "AU" or "Softbank" networks? I dont believe i can get NTT DOCOMO. Or any ideas if HP will be releasing devices for Japan?

    Thanks,

I was last in Japan in 2005, but as of then, my Sprint phone didn't work at all.

Maybe someone has more up to date info.

From what I have heard you might get your Sprint Pre to work at some Japanese airports and a select few other areas.....check with Sprint or check here: http://internationalroaming.sprint.com/IntlCoverage/

The costs will be insane. Best to buy a Japanese phone when you arrive.

Ah, sorry. Good luck with that. Japan does use CDMA but as far as I know the 2100 band isn't one that they use....so the Sprint phone would be pretty much useless.
