Has anyone got this to work on their Orange Treo 650? I remember trying a little while back and failing miserably.

I attempted it with a Treo 600, but failed miserably too! I think you need to use Orange's wap settings or some such thing.

If I recall, I had a right mare trying to get Orange to help me, what with their clueless staff and all.

On my unbranded unlocked GSM model, "Wireless Dial-up" is an available Network Service under Preferences/Network/New. Does the Orange model not have this choice?

Yes it does, but I don't know what the user name, password and other field settings are.... Presumably these are specific to your carrier Bill?

Not to my carrier, but to my ISP. I just use the same settings as those required by my laptop's dial-up modem: ISP username, ISP password, ISP access phone number, etc.

I think I read somewhere that your wireless carrier also needs to enable Circuit Switched Data (CSD) on your account for this to work. Can someone please clarify?
    Thanx

I believe that may be the case for some carriers; T-Mobile requires no such special permission.

Cool. I use my T-Mobile prepaid SIM when I'm in the US.
Do you know if it is possible to use this with a T-Mo prepaid SIM?

From what I can find browsing the howardforums, CSD is not configured for TMO2GO and you cannot get it enabled.

Tried using the 'wireless dial-up' selection instead of the modem ones but to no avail.

Sounds like you need to get CSD turned on for your account.

Does anyone know if Telstra in Australia requires activation of CSD. I am just about to go back home for a visit.

I got his to work with no problem, using a dial up service and bluetooth from my Mac, and a Treo 650 with an Orange UK account.
You obviously need a dial up account: I use Netaway, and just entered their user name and password. You need to select the right modem ("Sprint PCS vision" works over BT from my powerbook) and be able to pair your puter with your treo. Worked out of the box for me.
There were no Orange specific settings to change. I've used these settings in the middle east, Uk and Europe, just changing the dial up number. Your SIM needs to be data enabled, and you have to ensure that Orange or whoever have done this. They should do it for free.
I have previously posted my Treo settings: happy to do that again if it helps...

I don't want to use the phone as a dial-up modem for another device, I want to use Versamail and Blazer on my Treo with a dial-up number, rather than a GPRS connection. I've tried BT Internet and UK2net and neither dial-up will connect.

I tried following all the instructions on the Aadvaak site but no luck I'm afraid.
Must be due to Orange setup somehow.

Just spoken to Orange. The only thing I managed to get from them is the dial-up number: 07973 100 500.

I've tried various settings using my Freeserve email settings, but no luck.

    YES!!!

Got it working just now. All I had to do was spend 15 minutes on the phone to the clueless Orange technical team....

What you need to do is call 156 and select option 4, then option 2. Tell the operator you need to get CSD (Circuit Switched Data) activated on your account which will require them sending you a SIM update SMS (or four, in my case!?!?). You will probably get put through to someone else who will sort this for you.

The 'expert' I spoke to initially guided me through setting up a network connection but it was clear he was just reading from a manual because the instructions he gave me were to type 'ISP number' in the phone no. section an 'ISP username' in the username section etc!!! He thought those were the actual settings and not a prompt to enter *my* ISP's settings!

The ISP I'm using is called UK2net and the settings are:

    Username: uk2
    Password: uk2
    Phone Number: 0845 665 3000

No signup or registration needed and any number of people can use the above settings at the same time!
