Yes. Unfortunately, it happens to all of us at some time or another.

I wouldn't go that far, there are enough people on all sides of the political map, probably more on the right than on the left at the moment, so without claire I'm not worried that the voice of the right wing is lost..

I can stand up for Tool and say it definitely wasn't for attention.

I couldn't care in the slightest about post counts, its ridiculous that people are so bent out of shape over this.

But I am concerned about another aspect of new TC policy and all of you should be too.

Specifically, according to the written policy, if anyone voices even a slight disagreement with anything the mods do, the mods have full power to immediately ban you.

You can't even talk here about someone getting banned, because that can get you banned too.

If someone on our community gets banned I guess we are all supposed to pretend like nothing happened or we will be next. I suppose that is what is expected nowadays.

Well anyway, this is definitely not the open forum it used to be, and too bad, I'll miss this place.

I dunno..... "don't care if they count", "it's not a contest", "bla bla bla", everyone here is saying. Yet, the odd coincidence is -- the high count guys are the ones complaining the most in this thread.

This is treocentral.com, not wordassociation-getmycountup.com. I'm sure the treocentral guys paying the bandwidth bills would agree.

Perhaps you missed the line that reads:

Send a PM to a moderator if you have a question about a locked/edited posting.
    or the one under Appeals/Complaints:
If you feel that you are being treated unfairly, or have a question about an action, you may contact the moderator, or send a PM to one of the Editors (JHromadka or miradu). Communicating with us will not change any past moderations but may influence future actions.
These issues have no reason or benefit to being discussed publicly. Of course, that doesn't mean we will discuss the issues privately with unrelated parties.

    I'll miss this place.
There's not much we can do about people who feel this way. The bottom line is, this is a Treo site and we'd like to keep it Treo-centric. The Off Topic areas are there to round out the community. They're certainly not necessary to anything pertaining to the Treo.

Yes, those discussions in no way can change any damage that has been done. It is a heavy handed policy which has the potential for abuse.

Are you saying I just contribute to off topics so we don't need you anyway?

Well, I hope not. I realize as a moderator you do not have the time to be assessing all of my posts, so if you err in having to make unfounded generalizations about me, I won't blame you.

Regardless, the many times I have contributed in the Treo specific threads around here was done to help my fellow members, not in order to be recognized by the moderators.

In that spirit, this criticism I bring forth was offered not out of malice, but rather as a last attempt to provide some helpful advice for the forum. Good luck and I sincerely hope that things change for the better around here.

No... I was simply saying if people don't like the rules here and feel they must leave, there's nothing we can do about that. It wasn't directed to you personally.

I didn't make any generalizations, nor is there any need for blame.

    Constructive criticism is alway welcome.

This this is the second comment you've made that implies you're not happy and will be leaving us. All I can do is repeat what I said earlier: there's not much we can do about that.

The truth of the matter is that nothing's really changed. We haven't implemented any new rules; just put into writing the ones we've been following all along. The exception being that we won't publicly discuss banning, editing, etc.

And that's the part he is commenting about. It is heavy handed. "What we say goes and there is no discussion. Each mod's decision is final." Obviously the rule was put in place because you don't want to have to defend every decision, but the perception that lends is not a positive one. Also, questions directed by PM to a mod regarding such actions won't necessarily be responded to. So the obvious message is "there will be no discussion".

I'd like to give my .02 on this - from a BUSINESS perspective.

Yes, this is a TREO community - and you want people to see it as having value content (free support from users en masse). This, of course, helps drive traffic to your store. And you've got a grand community here, BUT...

    1. OFF TOPIC is clearly labeled, so the only time OT posts should be getting in the way is those who use the NEW link. (Umm, why not just make NEW go to all ON TOPIC?

    2. Posts counting or not, they do have value. And here's where it makes good business sense to keep them rolling. There are many other Treo forums out there - I've been to them. Why am I married to T|C? Because of the FRIENDS I've made, the LAUGHS I have after a hard day's work, and being able to converse about anything with anybody, while all the while still having something in common.

Others may think the whole Insertion post mania (contests, etc.) was "in the way" but, hey - HOW MANY posts did it generate? What's that say? How many people were on that night he was one post off?

It says that whether you have a Treo issue, or just wanna chat, come on by. And that means many more people seeing all those products lined across the top of the screen.

There's a Member Since Date, so it's clear that post count vs date start = how much time user has on his hands. And it's quite easy to click the name and see what forums the posts are in.

    3. The only thing I see eliminating the post counts does is make a lot of people less apt to just jump on every day (because that count can make you feel special - look at how many congrats go up when one hits a certain number). It's been proven in most other online forums that people feel all good inside when theirs goes up - because they don't want to be looked at as a kiddie.

If there's a goal to lessen the number of OT posts, then that would lessen the "community here."

Case in point. I post in all forums, but sometimes if there's not much on, I'll just post in OT. Either way, I see this as a "community" - it must be, cause there are T|Cers who I TXT with every now and then.

Anyway, it all boils down to dollars (and in the owner's shoes, it should), so it's logical - more post counts=more activity=more ads being seen=more orders=more money.

Not sure why no one else sees that, but from a business perspective (I consult online businesses for a living) it only makes sense to give anyone and everyone that false sense of feeling just a little more important.

Plus, it gives Perry and I another contest to run...
