I realize that these are the slow summer days regarding Treo news and discussion and that reasonably the Off topic discussions will become more active as a result...

BUT sometimes I really do NOT want to be inundated by the myriad of political or nonsense off topic threads that seem to permenantly occupy the top of the new posts search! I gets really annoying and thus I was wondering if there was a way OMIT the off topic forum from the new posts or Today's Post search? It would make things soo much easier to read imo while at the same time not preventing those from posting in the off topic from doing so.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a feature request for VBulletin. And not a bad idea at all. It would be cool to be able to Filter posts from some forums out.

However, if they took out the Off Topic posts in the new posts, some would surely post in the wrong forums just to get their posts listed. Another annoyance...

I just happen to frequent here the most, and I think a lot of others do, too. For a lot of good reasons, but among others, the mobile version of TC is superior to most all others (IMHO), so an amount of Off Topic posting is to be expected.

But I respect your opinion as well, these are just my .02.

As a personal choice maybe. But when I check new posts, I want it all. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

Is it that bad? I mean, I have three pages of New Posts, and only 9 threads in OT. There are 6 threads in 650 Hardware on the first page alone.

I do think a lot of the OT threads start morphing into each other and could just as well be merged though.

An off topic socio/political forum would remove a lot of posts, but then we would need a filter for that. An off topic humour forum would pull out a lot of threads, but then we'll need a filter for that too. What's a body to do?

Some times it can be imo...especially when you do not want to be inundated by all the politicos discussions that can be very annoying or even inflammatory. I just think that most people come here primarily to discuss Treos first and then everything else if they want...which is fine and a healthy part of a large and vibrant community. I would just like a way to filter out the stuff that is not primarily about the treo...

It could be useful, but I would still want it as a user selectable filter feature for all forums. (don't care for the politics much myself, but like many of the other off topic threads.)

    G,

I hear what you are saying, BUT what else are we supposed to discuss in the, as you say, slow summer months? I don't post in OT threads very often, but I read almost every political/current events thread. Interestingly enough, I get most of my current event insight from T|C. I don't have much time for anything other than mobile 411.

It does often become very redundant out here, but through it all there is an amazing amount of knowledge, color and respectful discourse in OT. I would support your right to block OT from your line of sight, but not a wholesale removal from new posts.

    Peace brother!

A-FRICKING-MEN!!! I whole-heartedly agree a filter to eliminate the off-topic thread for my personal profile would be quite welcome.

I believe we have witnessed the birth of a new species of troll here at T|C. The "I'm-posting-in-off-topic-so-it's-OK-Troll" and while the genesis of a new species is probably very interesting to some, I have no interest what so ever in the care and feeding.

I support thier right to post, I understand that is what that forum is for, but it would be great if I could turn it off for my profile as it is not my bag to post about religion/politics/morals/any-other-provocative-or-inflammatory-topic just so I can watch or fan the flames.

I come here for the Palm/Treo scene, the off-topic stuff is not for me for the most part.

No offence pdtreo, but that is both sad and frightening!! I hope you were kidding about that, seriously...

I wasn't asking for the removal of Off topic posts from new post search, but a customizable filter so those who don't want to read the drivel can avoid it.

I think the filter would be a great new feature - I'd probably use it not to filter off-topic but all of the old Treo Versions, CDMA and maybe some others that don't apply to me.

I agree wholeheartedly. I would love to be able to hide ALL Off-Topics. Getting current events from a Treo forum seems a little discouraging......

I LOVE this forum and spend a great deal of time on it. However, I would like to maximize that time by learning about my device, not being assaulted by political rants and the such. I understand that others use this forum as a form of socializing and find nothing wrong with it.......I would just like to get to the meat and potatoes of the postings.

How do you do this? I know you can setup a search to just look at specific forums and since your last visit, but without specifying a search term, it doesn't returm any results. Is there a wildcard that we could use?

Is there anyway to save that search once it's created?

    Hey...

Sounds like the Dems want to take my favorite TC column away.....

Here's an idea.....Don't open the thread, that way me and my other fellow Off Topic poison thread posters won't pollute any unsuspecting minds.......I exersize my do not open if I don't want to rights everyday.......Geeeeez.....

I agree and apologize. Back to geneld's question, how can this search be modified to do what you say?
