I can only show you how to type it in your browser prompt (this is for regular site, for mobile forum site see last paragraph):
    + &query=put_your_search_word_here
    + &titleonly=0
    + &searchdate=0
    + &sortby=views
    + &order=decending
    + &showposts=0"
    where:
    put_your_search_word_here is your search word(s)
after the &query prompt, are the optional variable words which stands as follows:
    &titleonly=
    - 0 to search entire posting
    - 1 if you want to limit your search to titles only.
    &searchdate=
    - 0 = Any Date
    - lastvisit = Your Last Visit
    - 1 = Yesterday
    - 7 = A Week Ago
    - 14 = 2 Weeks Ago
    - 30 = A Month Ago
    - 90 = 3 Months Ago
    - 180 = 6 Months Ago
    - 365 = A Year Ago
    &sortby=
    - title = Title
    - replycount = Number of Replies
    - views = Number of Views
    - threadstart = Thread Start Date
    - lastpost = Last Posting Date
    - postusername = User Name
    - forum = Forum
    &order=
    - descending = in Descending Order
    - ascending = in Ascending Order
    &showposts=
    - 0 = Show Results as Threads
    - 1 = Show Results as Posts

NOTE: Please omit the plus signs and spaces as they are only typed here for readability. The whole statement should be typed as one continues line (spaces allowed between search words.
    for example: "http://discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process
    + &query=tzone&titleonly=1&searchdate=0
    + &sortby=views&order=descending&showposts=1"
would search for the word tzone on titles only (omit the + signs and spaces). Try to limit your search words to one to three words. vBulletin uses an OR logic to scan through. The AND logic does not seem to work here. Don't try to put simple words, like: the, is, are....

    Click sample below:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/se...ng&showposts=0

Change the discussion.treocentral.com to treo.discuss.treocentral.com to apply to the mobile forum, like below:
    + &query=tzone&titleonly=1&searchdate=0
    + &sortby=views&order=descending&showposts=1"

    or click below:

You'd think the mobile site would be far more TREO friendly. It boggles my mind how bad it is on my Treo...

Ronbo, thanks for your post, but.....give us a break. TC should make a MUCH better mobile forum.

Probably based more on limitations of the forum software used (vBulletin) for mobile devices than anything else I would imagine...
    Palm III > HS Visor > Treo 600 > Treo 650 > Treo 750 > Treo Pro > PrePlus GSM

Hey, I tried. I don't do the programming and development work here nor do I have the authority.

But if you just copy the command and paste it. Adjust it to your needs, it works.

I don't see an option to search by username. What would an advanced search for my username look like?

You can find anything you want if you view the source code of the page. :-)

As for the long URLs - you can create bookmarks to them, or get ShortCut5 and then do quick commands to bring it all in and then just append the final string.

Would this work for the mobile site?
  12. #12
ehh, if I want to do an advanced search on the Treo I'll just visit the full site.

I agree though, while the mobile version is great for browsing on the Treo, it could be a lot more feature packed. More options should be available (such as editing posts and PMs )

Yeah, but as far as I know, you can't easily do an advanced search on the treo.

    Here's the search by username:

    + do=process&searchuser=put_user_name_here
    + &showposts=0
    + &exactname=1
    + &starteronly=0"
    where:
put_user_name_here is your user name or any other user name or portion of user name.
after the &searchuser prompt are optional parameters as follows:
    &showposts=
    - 0 = Show Results as Threads
    - 1 = Show Results as Posts
    &starteronly=
    - 0 = Find Posts by User
    - 1 = Find Threads Started by User
    &exactname=
    - 0 = Partial name
    - 1 = Exact name
You can combine also some of the optional search parameters from the search by keyword above. As stated before, don't type the " or +'s.

    Samples:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=0&exactname=1&starteronly=0

For PreCentral users, replace discussion.treocentral.com with forums.precentral.net, like shown below:
    http://forums.precentral.net/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=0&exactname=1&starteronly=0

    or for mobile users:
    by thread:
    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=0&exactname=1&starteronly=0
    by post:
    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=1&exactname=1&starteronly=0

Again, if you are a PreCentral user, change treo.discussion.treocentral.com to m.forums.precentral.net.

for the mininum entry, all you need is just to get to the &searchuser and the rest are defaulted.

Sorry for the belated response. But to make sure I post this right, I need my home PC and I have not sat infront of my home computer for a long time.

So I enter the following for the mobile site, but it defaults me to the standard search results page:

    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium

    Thank You!

I am not exactly sure what you want to see but when you say standard, it is what you have saved as your settings for searches. By default, your settings for the optional parameters are as follows:
This is for "Find threads with" prompt on the search advance panel.
    &replyless=
    - 0 = At Least (default)
    - 1 = At Most
The next two are combined as "Find Posts from" prompt
    &searchdate=
    - 0 = Anydate (default)
(See prior post for other values)
    &beforeafter=
    - after = and Newer (default)
    - before = and Older
The next two are for "Sort Results by"
    &sortby=
    - lastpost = Last Posting Date (default)
(See prior post for other values)
    &order=
    - descending = in Descending Order (default)
    - ascending = in Ascending Order
The last prompt is the "Show Results as"
    &showposts=
    - 0 = Show Results as Threads (default)
    - 1 = Show Results as Posts

Basically, you can take one of these steps to change your default search results view:
    1. You can change these settings by going to the standard site and change the values and hit the Go button on the "Save search preferences" prompt or
    2. on your URL above try adding one of the prompts like this:

    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=1
This will list your postings separately with the thread headers.
or this one, where it only list threads you've started (combined starteronly and showpost settings:
    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=0&starteronly=1

And, if you saved this as one of your favorites, then you don't have to keep typing it in the command line.

I have as one of my mobile favorites as:
For the entire day's worth of updated threads posting:
    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=getdaily

The other one is the user search as I have subscribed by posting:
    http://treo.discussion.treocentral.com/search.php?do=process&searchuser=kronium&showposts=0&starteronly=0
This shows me all of the threads I have posted to (and subsequently automatically subcribed to) so I can check if someone responded recently.

Ahh, thanks, you've been a great help.

Where is the Help information on saech methods and syntax?

For example, how do I do boolean searches? I tried

    mobitv and calls

for posts with both these words, but it didn't quite work that way. Also, enclosing a phrase in " " doesn't search for that exact phrase ...

The search seems to be rather limited. . .
