It's the questions that only require the poster to RTFM that gets me. How hard is that to do?

which is the point i was making. when the post in question was in reguards to changing ringtones and downloading, all you have to do is open the manual.

This thread should be a sticky on "Why we read the manual":

...I wish I could quote on the treo with wap but you said:

"t2, the thread in that started this had nothing to do with the original poster. Nothing I said, nor Dutch had anything to do with him."

I thought Dutch said in the first post that he just made a comment about reading the forum and lurking to get some info...so I thought he said that it was his post that brought the complaint?

You also said: "That's the problem. In fact, as far as some our (ahem) "Flame-fests", this was the equivalent of a wet match."

I couldn't agree more ;-) I didn't think the comment was rude at all...in fact, EvilGhost's comment was much more abrasive ;-D

Perhaps the Forum Use Guidelines should (a) include RTFM as point #1, and (b) point out that if you don't RTFM, and don't search before posting, you post at your own risk.

    Wasteful posting? Seriously?

    Woof,
in fairness, I believe the Mod was being diplomatic. IMHO it was the complainer that was ridiculous.

Me, too. I lurked here lots before joining, got the info I needed, and only joined to put in my $0.02 on an issue that I'd encountered, thought I could help... I agree that joining and posting questions because you're too lazy to read the manual is deserving of ridicule, but I'd think it would be better to handle it with a big silent lack of response.

While I agree it can be very irritating/frustrating to see newbies post the same question over and over again, please do refrain from replying in a 'funny' way.
Use the red triangle instead and let the mods sort it out.
Responding in a 'funny' way unfortunatly leads to flamewars. as Kurt put it 'No flames. Don't insult people. Even if they disagree with you. We do not stand for that.'

Newbies make mistakes, us oldtimers should be above that and either point them out in a polite way or let mods handle this. Thats what the mods are for. And a reminder to Insertion and dutchtrumpet: you are not mods, so please refrain from acting like one.

We aren't mocking TC for lack of purity since it fronts a store. Please take 5 minutes and read this thread of April 2004. Notice my comments about how I'm hoping Marcus is making money?

Read the thread again and tell me what has changed. Has it gotten better? Worse? What has changed on this site apart from a revamp of the store?

Dutch, I'm sorry to hear you're getting bored quickly at mytreo.net - I'm afraid we can't please everybody.

Apologies for breaking into this thread, please do continue the original topic.

Don't get me wrong...MTDN is a great site and has many loyal users. I just haven't had the bug there in a while.
"bored" was a bad choice of word.

FWIW (not much, as the only opinions that matter here seem to be those of the mods), but I think Dutch's advice was sound, politely phrased, and quite useful. But, as someone else suggested, some people expect to be spoon fed, and don't want to have to figure anything out for themselves.

Yes, seriously. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming any mods for this. They get a complaint, they have to pass it on. I am of the opinion that if they weren't mods, at least a few would be chuckling out loud at some of our posts...however, they have to nurse the noobs and send the warnings.

"There there, Mama will make it alllll better. Let me tuck you in and fill your ba-ba, and I'll go punish those mean people..."

I'm not sorry if your feelings are hurt, or you were bothered by useless postings. But I will apologize to the Mods and Admins of TreoCentral for having put them in this position. To you, I am sorry.

I wasn't. Have I ever said to anyone here, "straighten up, or else"?

In fact, my interaction with Dutch had nothing to do with anyone, other than Dutch and myself. Funny how we can make light-hearted comments about ourselves, and laugh about it. That was the absolute most harmless banter we have ever had.

This might be a comment that has been posted already, but I have to say that I like Insertion's monkey much more than Dutch's. Or are the two symbolizing a mother&child-like relationship that I wasn't aware of yet?
