I have alway replied on Treo Central to be a great place for Unbais Review, and recommendation for software, and solutions. But lately I have seen a influx of Developer, and pro developer post trying to force there views and opinions on other users.

everytime a piece of free software, the has the same functionality of a pay software, an agruement begin starts freeware, and open source vs pay developer.

I also see developer post question about a app for a certian function, then answering their own question with recomendation for there own software.

What is treo central policy on Trolling, from reading the banned users post, I see the people are banned or warned for Trolling, But what about undercover advertising, and Developer Trolling.

I can't count how many post I have seen destory by developers, and they helper, trying to force their software on other users, while discourageing the use of free software.

    Just my opinion

My opinion is that although I believe there are instances of the type of behavior you describe for the most part this is a great forum for the support of developers. Many of the best apps for the treo began with ideas of users and the active involvement of developers in these forums. I believe it's one of the best thing about treocentral.

    Absolutly right.

but I'm not talking about that part. I'm talking about the bias suggestions for the best app. The attitude dev have, when someone suggests a free alternative.

if you are a developer state the fact, and tell people to try your software. Don't act like you are a average treo user "with no-bias" then recommend a certian software title above the other, or try and put a guilt trip on user concerning Open source, and Profit Dev.

Dev Goals are to make money off of there software, A Forum is a free speech instrument to to help people in make the right Decisions.

It's like a stock advisor. He is not supposed to own any interest in the stocks he suggest.

I don't think TC needs to do anything, but some of these developer need to have some consideration.

I don't disagree with your points but am wondering who the "undercover" developers are. Do you mean the known developers (takephone, confusedvorlon, jeffgipson, marcblanc, etc) or do mean there are developers posting under different user names?

I think smiley88 of toysoft is often guilty of spamming threads.

NO none of the major developers, They clearly stay within the compounds of their own Thread. I'm talking about user who have around 30 post, and the majority are "Pro" a certian piece of software or against a certian piece of the competitions/freeware software.

I'm about to compile a list of suspected Dev undercover poster.

I totally agree with your statement...also while spamming his products he avoids talking about known bugs! He simply will spam and run and not even answer questions about bugs...other developers like Marc from Chatter are very respectable with customers and he answers *all* questions directed at his product whether its good or bad...thats the way it should be!

All of his post deal only with VeriChat.
He also talks bad about other im program, and denies error with Verichar

Does this 20% off really matter? More important is where does Causerie standard or premier stand as compared to VeriChat?

Just my 2cents but I think it's important to be clear about what clarence seems to be talking about here. He seems to think that there are posters that pose as normal customers but that in reality are actually affiliated with a certain product. There may be certain developers that ignore bugs etc, but at least we know they are developers! The people Clarence seems to be talking about will have like 15 or 20 posts and they will all be about the same product (and all extremely positive). I'm really not sure of what to make of all this...

Thank you for clearing that up.

    What I make of it=

The developer prey on newbie user, and non techies. If a developer can answer a persons question and post them a link "to there product", before someone can give them real advise then they can mislead alot of people. How many times have you search the forum, found an answer to your question, and clicked on the first link to the solution.

These Developer poster are also cheating TreoCentral out of Advertising money. They push there products to TC user "in undercover ADs/POST", and don't compensate TC at all. TC has a software pay software section, and this were developer need to post there ads.

    Exactly!
Clarence makes a great point. For the experienced users like you and I, we will be able to discern those undercover agents. But for the newbie, biased advice will be misleading...

to answer you question, no. But...it was harmless. It was not an attack a flame or anything like that. I was adding a little personality into a thread in which I have already posted seriously and on-topic. It happens here all the time and is what makkes this forum better than the rest, or at least it used to. As you told me....

Whats happening with you lately anyway? you seem to be a bit 'on edge'? Are things OK there?

If you had payed more attention you would have seen I said 'in the off topic section'
We are in the treocentral section here, which is a 'serious section'
If you want to fool around fine, but keep it in the off topic section.

May as well lock the thread. And every other thread after the second or third post for that matter...

And to Clarence, who are some of these posters? I thought of Smiley, but I guess you mean others?
