I had posted this in another thread before they combined them. I emailed her and asked her what was going on, and she responded:

Hey... even though she's a wacko GOP looney... she's the only other one here from Colorado.

    Bring her back!!!

Interesting...ask a question that's been asked before about something Treo related, and get jumped on for not using the search feature. Ask a question about a thread topic that's been created multiple times in one day, get a smart aleck response. That's awesome.

The moderators of this forum requested that ClaireGrrl be temporarily restrained to help stop what was perceived as trolling and mild flamebaiting.

We used a feature that we have never used before, called "Tachy goes Coventry". We hope to use more often - it's not a ban, as to targeted user, the site seems completely normal. But to everyone else on TreoCentral, the posts are unviewable, as if the target user was added to everyone's ignore list.

I would be happy to remove Clairegrrl from this list if she can promise to be more respectful and purposeful in her posts. Claire - you can email me - michael@treocentral.com. Otherwise, we were simply planning on having it lasting a week.

We are serious about trying to encourage respectful and purposeful posting here at TreoCentral.com, and we will continue to ban/hide/remove users that hurt this purpose. Believe it or not, there was a time when our forums got constant praise for the lack of clutter, and helpfulness of our users. If you have any reasonable suggestions on how to do this, please post them in the tc.com forum - we're listening. And lastly, yes, we are working on the "newbie" problem - I think we have a pretty cool solution which we will announce sometime soon.

Finally, a response. Are those put in Forum Purgatory given any notice of this? Or do they wake up oblivious to this?

Perhaps the status underneath the name so the rest of us know that the lights are on, but no one is home? I know you said post in the tc.com forum but since I'm typing...

Here's the problem - we thought people knew. For all moderators/administrators, we see a line with their name, and then the phrase "The administrator has decided that clairegrrl should be quiet for a while." We can even still view her posts if we want. We thought that everyone saw this, I guess we were wrong. So yes, in the future there will be better notification.

No. Her profile shows Member. And any posts simply do not show up. On the main TC forum index page, it'll show that she had made a new post in a thread, but go to the thread, and there is nothing. In fact she is completely eliminated. No blank message, nothing.

I'm sure you've checked by now, but if not, if you have a dummy account, or create a fake one, you'll see there is nothing at all.

But thanx for finally solving this.

I've looked and looked in my manual and can't find how to activate "claire".

I did dial *2 talk and there is a lady named claire that lives there. When I talk to her she doesn't talk back though. Is anyone seeing this issue. I'm thinking P1 dropped the ball and claire's volume is too low. Hopefully there will be a firmware fix soon!!

OK, I just read miradu's explanation. I am going a limb here but it probably has to do with the French-Connection.... That's silly. Even though I disagree strongly with clairegrrl she has the right to express her feelings. The only reason a person should be banned is if he/she makes racist/anti-humanistic statements. Her latest posts weren't as such.
If you are refering to the French thread that was locked, I didn't see anything racist or trollish at all. There's a lot worse that goes on in the OT forum.

I know, Mods can't police every thread, but still, that one in particular seemed fairly tame. In the end, it's their choice as to what goes, what gets locked, who gets banned, and for what.

You decided she should be quiet for a while???????????????? Nice - do you always censor those you don't agree with?

And to enlist this never before used option without notifying the user - that's plain wrong. Continue on this type of tack and you'll effectively kill the site. Well done.

Can I ask what was particularly offensive about her posts, as I have a tendency to be quite abrupt myself...

Yeah, you do. But I think she's back so you don't have to worry about it any more. Looks like Big Brother decided to be a kinder gentler BB.

LOL! Subtlety was never my strong point. If I'm p!$$ed at you, you will know it. And if I step into a poilitical debate, you'll know exactly what side of the fence I'm standing on. I may very well acknowledge the validity of the other side's points, but I'll fight for my view to be given a fair shot too.

After a brief search, I found where our difference lies, hsk. For the life of me I couldn't recall what thread I may have taken an opposing viewpoint to yours. Florida's new self-defense & violence thing.

Nevertheless, I think perhaps a more precise (appropriate or otherwise) conduct-manifesto could clear things up. There's a fine line to stride between the First Amendment and slur. (I happened to read clairegrrl's latest posts about the French and couldn't find anything to justify banning, but maybe I missed something.)
It wasn't just the french threat (wich btw I consider to be (borderline) racist, just replace french with jew or black and you'll get the point. Just because frenchbashing is generally accepted doesn't make it ok. Same goes for US bashing btw, some post on that topic have been going very close to the edge too)
It was also other things she said, but basically it is her lack of respect for other and her trolling like behaviour that is not appreciated.
As miradu said: 'We are serious about trying to encourage respectful and purposeful posting here at TreoCentral.com'

This is just another tool we have to use to keep this a nice place.. personal attacks, trolling and flaming are not allowed here.

It has nothing to do with censoring or not agreeing.
Personally I don't agree with a lot of people, but that doesnt mean I don't respect their opinion.
The moderators are made up out of a group of very diverse people with all kinds of backgrounds and political views, then thing that connects us (and also all the users) is our interest in the treo.

Once again the thing we are cracking down on is lack of respect for others, flaming, trolling, personal attacks etc.
