I totally disagree with this statement. In my 5 years here, I have NEVER seen a power hungry moderator (or administrator for that matter). Then again, I've never seen the level of contempt from users like I have in the past year or so. In many cases, I really feel that we were forced into taking action, rather than doing it on our own.

Here's something to think about... as moderators, we're forced to read virtually everything posted in order to keep the flames, etc, to a minimum. It makes it extrememly difficult to actually enjoy any of the content here. On a few occasions, I've logged in under an alias account just to be anonymous.

Also, we cannot easily partake in many of the controversial topics because doing so could or would be interpreted as our view equals some "official" stance on the topic.

For those who may not know this, ToolkiT and I have been here almost from the very start of VisorCentral. We were both asked to become mods at the same time (September 2000 IIRC). And we've always tried to maintain the community feel that VC was noted for. Personally, I don't see any need for foul language or personal attacks in a forum like this. It just detracts from the quality of the content.

Now, I'm not saying that people shouldn't talk about the negatives. Certainly, the collective voice here has been heard by the likes Handspring, PalmOne, and many of the other suppliers that have touched our Visor and Treo world. But talking negative can be done in a cool and calm manner without the need for expletives.

For example, I recently asked someone here who used a common street phrase if he would say it to his mother! Or, for those members who have children, would they want their kids to read some of these things?

Also remember that the moderating team here is completely volunteer. We receive no compensation from TC, nor does TC exert any pressure on us to steer topics one way or another. We're moderators because we believe in the TC community... and we all benefit from TreoCentral being the best Treo site on the 'net!

Although the mods and I dont always agree, (well there have been a couple of times) I think they do an excellent job of keeping us in line. If there is something deleted there is likely a good reason, and they have been lots better lately about stating the reason.

As I have been told on numerous occasions, if you dont like how things are done, go start your own forum.

Keep up the good work mods.

Great post! I feel like in the six months or so prior to the 650 release things started to get a little crazy on the boards. Without a constant surge of new treo issues boredom set in. Throw in all of the pre-election chaos and the quantity of good solid geeky treo topics was dwindling. Now that the 650 is out I think things are the most fun they've been here since March or so. I think when the GSM treos start rolling the fun will really get cooking. Also how many new members have been added in the last year? A certain percentage of those are gonna be folks that just like to stir things up. With more members...that segment of TC grows.

That's my take after a year here. I think the mods here do a great job. Thank you for all of the time that you give.

Don't think any of us are power hungry, personally I'd rather people just acted nicely without me having to intervene..

Amazing thing how Seldom claims that he doesn't care about this site, yet from his posting frequency during business hours you'd think posting here was his job. Amazing.
