Do you really need to ask that question? Think about it. TreoCentral is financed by the TreoCentral Store. They're in the business of SELLING Treos. Do you think it is likely that they are going to do a front page story on an issue that would bring bad press to the device and possibly hurt sales?

give it a rest. TC is a business. they have no obligation to formally post something that could hurt relationships with their vendors.

last i checked, we weren't a socialist nation....yet. let's nationalize treocentral! force them to do things that are bad for their business! let's squawk and whine about how evil businesses are! (what are you employed by?). there's no shortage of info on the memory issue here in the forums. they're not censoring posts on it here. not by any stretch. if they wanted to, they could wipe out every single mention of the memory problem here in the forums, and it would be tough-noogies for the posters, since the first amendment doesn't apply here.

    sheesh.

    give it a rest.

hurry up and post your criticism, once the censors at TC see it, they'll delete all these "memory" posts and replace them with hi res photos of puppies holding 650s....

Get a clue - why is TC obligated to make any statement, they have allowed the trashing and thrashing to occur openly and freely in the forums, while paying the freight to host it (yes, someone has to pay to host this stuff). I think they should do or not do whatever they please....

Im just shoecked the the caller ID problem didn't get more play.... It is an extremely disturbing issue. Personally - If you have a card it is a memory non-issue. Also you will be thanking PalmOne when you battery dies, and your informationis STILL there!

Interesting choice of words and POV - "they have allowed"

This is an open forum. So long as there are no violations of Terms and Conditions, you should be able to post whatever you like. I don't think thrashing and trashing P1 for a VERY LEGITIMATE concern should even be in the same sentence as censorship. Mods and TC had no choice but to "allow" it.

This sort of trashing and thrashing is generally referred to as discourse. What it led to was silverado coming up with a brilliant temporary fix.

It's all over the TC forums. Who cares if it's on the front page?
Less than 400 posts to get my own little treo icon!

I can't speak for the editorial staff (being just a lowly moderator ), but here's my take on things.

First off, marcus announced that they are, in fact, working on an article regarding the memory issues.

Second, Miradu has stated several times that both a formal review and an "impressions" article will be forthcoming.

As with everything that's ever been done at TC (and even earlier at VisorCentral), all good things take time. TC/VC have never rushed a review or article for the sake of being the first to report something.

It's my understanding that neither marcus or miradu have received a production 650 unit yet. It's kinda hard to review something you ain't got, don't you think?

As said already, there's been more than enough "coverage" of everything bad about the 650 in the forums; the same forums that are available to (and no doubt read by) the manufacturers, carriers, and other associated vendors of these devices.

If TreoCentral was really concerned about bad press affecting store sales, I'm sure the forums would be locked down. As it is, marcus even suggested last week that people who really wanted (needed?) to get their hands on a 650 should consider buying from Sprint or PalmOne since he couldn't say for sure when the store would be able to fill orders. If you ask me, that's a class act: putting customers needs ahead of profits!

In almost 5 years (yikes!) of hanging around here, it seems that each subsequent release of a handheld device brings wave after wave of criticism to the people that run this wonderful site. The truth is TC can't please everybody (just read the forums!). There's fanatics on both sides of the 650 who think their views, impressions, and experiences are gospel. Heaven forbid someone tries to say otherwise!

I disagree. Being a private (and free) site, the TC staff could limit/prohibit access to the forums anytime they choose. I don't think they ever will... but it's not like they couldn't if they choose to.

To clarify my point, I was responding to the criticism that the memory issue was not addressed on the front page - and by hyperbole (good huh - did I use it right) tried to compare it to censorship. The point being there is no conspiracy to supress the topic.

I do stand by my point that they "allow" posting, since it does not happen for free. Yes, you need to abide by the Ts&Cs, but this forum exists due to their business efforts and good will. If they were really afraid of something, they could take a far more aggressive posture.

BTW, I have posted to political forums and been banned due to my point of view, despite my compliance with their Ts&Cs.

There is no vast Treo wing conspiracy. The truth may be as mundane as this: the units from the Treocentral store are still shipping, so the mods and admins may not even have theirs yet.

I have seen censorship in TC before. Remember when the Treo 600 was first being released. Post against the Treo 600 seems to disappear "separation", and all attempt to support the 300 were over crowded by Pro 600 posts "discrediting". Then the complicated new Category split "divide and conquer"

Treo Central is a business, and we have to accept that fact, and support them, but don't expect them to look out for you best interest when it come to product recommendation. I have also seen Moderator and User "Moderator in Disguise" recommend inferior Pay software, when better quality free software was available.

I think you should watch less John Grisham movies

There is no policy whatsoever to censor anti treo posts (just look at the Other Handhelds, Phones, and Smartphones forum and you'll see lots of them, and many others in other forums too)
We have however lost some posts in the past due to technical problems, but there was no conspiracy...

as for the question about an article about the memory issue:
    http://www.treocentral.com/content/Stories/494-1.htm

A review for the 650 is still comming up, once we get our treo's and get time to write a decent review..

Not really. It is open because the owners allow it to be. This is a commercial site, not a public one, and the owners can limit or purge any topic or discussion they choose to.

Doing so might well kill the goose, but just because you think it should be open doesn't mean it has to be. Only the government is prohibitied from censorship. Private organizations, like TreoCentral, are free to censor as they wish.

personally I don't think TC should be obliged to issue a review, after all we are all adults and can formulate our own views by either using and assessing the device or reading the very useful reviews posted here by TC members or using the web to find othr sites that have published good reviews, of which there are now several.
