I really wasn't trying to harp on you. I truely was inquiring about your situation. As an employer I allow public website viewing and therefor accept what comes of it. If I had an objection to something my employees had no control over then I would simply not allow public website viewing.

Sorry if my question seemed like an attack

I didnt think it was necessary to berate him because of his ignorance (lack of knowledge-not intelligence) so I didnt post. I mean, whats the point of coming to the TC forum if you can't ask a question? Should he have searched...yes. If I think its a 'stupid question' (IMHO) I usually decide not to respond or to advise the person to search. I don't have to start making personal attacks on the guy.
    Well put.

I didnt take what you said as an attack (which brings up another point...if you post in certain threads, you cant have too thin of a skin i.e. Democrat Flogging, Terry Shiavo, etc.).

If, as an employer, you allow public website viewing, I am sure you probably have some limits on how much time the employee can spend and where they surf (i.e. porn, anti-sematism, etc.)

I just would be embarrassed if my boss came up to ask me a question and on my screen was a post where someone was talking about "pocket p***ies" (and I am not trying to get myself banned or to identify any one person/event in particular).

Just making sure. I am guilty (rarely) of attacking but more often than not it is in jest

You ever have a moment when you are totally serious at work and then you switch over to the treocentral webpage and you just start laughing your head off and all your co-workers start looking at you? Yep just had one. LOL

I came here seeking knowledge and wisdom, begging someone to help me solve this, and you laugh at me?

People in general, yes. To suggest that here at TC only the mods have that trait is ridiculous, and you know that as well as I.

No, no one's been banned for saying "crap." But people have been banned, and threatened with banishment, for using other words that are in common daily usage.
No one's been banned for language alone. If you look back at the threads some of those people posted in, there's usually a vile tone to their posts, or they just got confrontational to the point of distraction.

And, frankly, the threat of banning people for "attitude" scares me more than banning people for language. You're now putting yourself in the position of understanding what is in someone's mind, and determining if his/her attitude is acceptable to you? I certainly hope that's not what you mean.
It's not about being "acceptable to me". It's what's in the best interest of this community. Granted, it's a subjective area and you and I may never agree on the boundaries. By attitude, I mean is the content and context of any given post beneficial to the TC community or not? No, I can't know or understand what anyone is thinking, but I can (usually) tell the difference between good and bad.

But there's a growing tendency here to treat this like elementary school, with "teachers" who feel it's their responsibility to protect us from ourselves.
I disagree. We're not trying to sterilize TC, but rather maintain what's already been established. We're not doing anything different today than we did 5 years ago at VC. The difference is that there's a significant number of members and posts, so these situations occur more often.

There's no constitutional protection against being offended
There's also no constitutional protection of free speech here either... it is a private forum. So while you may not like "censorship", it is within our right to do it.

I think that's what you and your fellow moderators are trying to accomplish.
Again I ask what are we supposed to do when someone IS offended and they do complain to us? Should my answer now be something like "so-and-so uses that language with his kids, grandmother AND boss, so you shouldn't be offended by it"? That's my dilemma...

    information without fun is boring
I think you'll agree that there's a big difference between "fun" and "vile".

And we're also here for a sense of community, and no community is without disagreement, argument, strife and the occasional insult to go along with the fun, comraderie, and helpfulness that we all seek.
I'm not disputing any of this. But when those disagreements, arguments, and insults get out of hand (another subjective area), something needs to be done.

But that doesn't mean I go over the edge when I hear someone do it. I can easily ignore it, and suggest that other people should learn to do the same.
Unfortunately, moderators CAN'T ignore it, and you can't ask, force, or expect others to be like you. We (moderators), however, can and do enforce a set of standards that has been in place forever here.

Are we off topic yet? Is it possible to kill a banned users thread?

I'm beginning to think that reading the I LOVE MY TREO and the I HATE MY TREO threads was more fun.

This whole discussion is really very pointless. The moderators here are not going to give in. They are right and thats that. I have been in these arguments with them several times and it's always the same.

"If you dont like it, leave."

I am reminded of the old adage, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Take a look at MTDN. They dont have near the restrictions there nor near the problems.

Not trying to tell them what to do but the Mods really should lock this thread, (since they can still post any new "banned" members here), and move these posts into new thread.

yeah.. the mods have better things to do like moderate... then to waste their time continuing to argue semantics.

Have been banned for the following reasons:
    a) being clones (same IP used)
    b) alleged employees of the Mantra Group posing as "regular" users to defame VeriChat/boost their own product.

User ideas who seems to be the original poster has been banned for only 1 week for now, he can send me a PM if he wants to lift this ban but must provide a good explanation of what is happening.. If I don't get a reply within that week he gets a permanent ban too.
