    Another thread closed.

    http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=61109

I know I have said this before. Close the threads all you want, but at least have the decency to point out why. If someone is posting in a manner that you dont like, make a point to tell them.

It really pisses me off when I am typing away on a reply to a thread and when I hit submit the stupid thread is closed and I haven't the foggiest idea why. Bloody rude if you ask me.

I closed it and if you read it, it's pretty clear why.

its not the why its the how. If you dont point out the transgressions at what point do you expect the transgressors to actually get a clue?

It's also like hanging up the phone in the middle of someones conversation without saying anything. It's rude. Makes you no better than the poster(s) you are punishing, except maybe you have the power to exercise "the last word".

It's funny the difference in styles that the moderators have around here. It would be nice to play on a consistent playing field. Oh wait I forgot, I can leave if I dont like it. Nevermmind.

In Holland we have a saying that says: the best sailors stand on shore...
    Think it applies here.
Your last sentence was pointless. again you imply somthing that is not true... please stop that...

You guys do have different styles of handling things. Why is that fact a problem for you? I wasnt implying anything. I stated exactly what I meant.

The last sentence was "Nevermind." Please explain the part that is not true.

Although I generally dont agree with woof -- in this case I do.

I reason posted in a thread as to the reaason why it is being closed should be a requirement before closing it.

Hrm. . . I also fid Woof to come off a little too strong, but I too do agree with him to a degree.

Thread locking is a little more common than I would care for. I would think that a thread would only be locked if the original post was improper, not because some person "crapped" in it.

If there are offending posted in a thread, I would rather see the offending posts removed or edited than see the entire thread locked.

They should be edited... never just deleted. A reason to the edit should be placed in the post in place of the improper content.

With the current level of utter disrespect for the forum rules on this site I can see why threads get more frequently locked.

Disrespect for the forum members isn't going to improve things at all though and so I tend to agree with Wolf here.

Surprised to see neither Bush nor WiFi have been brought up yet. Mind you, that wasn't meant in a funny way at all. If you think it was funny then you don't understand the issues this forum is having.

Any of the moderators care to comment on the above posts?

I agree, with people disbehaving, there is only so much we can do about it..
The answer really lies within the userbase I'm afraid..

IMO, a thread should be locked if it becomes mean spirited, insulting, troll fest, or if it becomes extremely off-topic. However there seem to be a quite a few 'un-dead' threads here at treocentral that have no purpose at all. In general though, I think the mods should state why a thread is locked...

Hmm.. not at all clear to me why it was closed. It was off topic and in the 'off topic' board. No swearing... Just some observations on lines and such. I really _don't_ see what the big deal was about.

We've been kicking around a zero tolerance policy. I think we are close to implementing it. That means that anything that even remotely smacks of attack or insult will be locked and the writer given a temporary suspension.

/me pines for the good old days of unfettered flaming on multiple usenet groups... (mostly just as the bemused victim).

I mean , come on people, it's just a discussion forum.

True... but is it unreasonable to expect users to display a bit of etiquette and a modicum of restraint?
