Every time I try to search discussions, no results are returned. Does the discussion search even work?

You bet it works. Maybe the query you are submitting is too specific, and in fact there are no results??

make sure your query is >4 charactors. Otherwise you have to add a wildcard to the end to make it work. (*)

Also make sure you click the search inside of the discussion, rather than the search in the blue bar at the top of the page. Big difference.

That's probably my problem right there. Why on earth don't they fix that?

What's to fix? One is for searching the site, one is for searching the discussions.

On VisorCentral, sure. But when you're on Treo Central.com, there's a nav item in the top nav bar for "search." When you click it, you get a search field with the option to search either the website or discussions. If you search for discussions, it appears to not work properly. That's what I meant.

Thanks, I understand what you mean now.

I tested it just now used string 'search' and found this thread...

    -What string were you using?
-If you use the same string in the forum search does it return a value ( assume so, but you never know...)
-Which browser are you using (not that I think that would be the cause but you never know)
-were you logged into the forum? (again: not that I think that would be the cause but you never know)

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

I use IE - no results found whenever I use the Search feature located in the blue bar at the top of the page and tell it to search discussion areas. No matter how matter characters or how specific you are. The only way to find anything from TreoCentral is to go into Discussions and then the submenu search feature.

I, too, find this thread with the string "search."

However, when I search for "OS X Mail Script," I get no results, despite the fact that there's a thread with that subject at http://discussion.treocentral.com/tc...hreadid=32798.

But when I search for "OS and X and Mail and Script," it DOES work. So it looks like it's probably working as intended... but not defaulting to an exact string match in the absence of Boolean operators (which I haven't used since the early days of AltaVista) strikes me as REALLY bad search functionality.

I think I found a problem with searches today.

I searched (in the discussion search) for "GPS" with option "Title Only". I got "GPS for Treo" in Treo General Chat.

That wasn't what I was looking for- I was looking for the Mapopolis announcement. So I searched for "mapopolis" with option "All of Article".

This time I got "GPS for Treo" in Article Comments, which did NOT show up in my first search. The threads were sorted by last post date, so it should surely have appeared near the top of the list.

Perhaps I did it wrong, or perhaps the search engine doesn't do so well with identical titlees. I'd appreciate knowing what I did wrong, so I can avoid it in the future.

The 4-character requirement didn't prevent me from finding a whole slew of threads with "GPS" in the title.

    Thanks for any help.
