I see that the forums now have a new header. I'm gonna start to say that it's a little too big. I liked it better when the common links don't take up that much space. The "Find your device forums" search bar should be stacked below the regular search bar. The buttons below the user name should be rearranged so that member buttons are on the top row and forum buttons on the bottom row, instead of the staggered approach now. With then trending lists, it'd be nice to see the numbers, as before. It gives a better scope of how popular things are. The top 10 forums section is useless (I think individual forums matter less than their contents; now that no webOS devices are being produced, have those columns don't promote any emerging devices). The fonts and spacing should be shrunk back to their original sizes, since as mentioned at the beginning of this post, it's taking up half of my screen space.
TBH while I like a fresh coat of paint the original nav bar wasn't broken, and this new one doesn't seem to be more useful. Some features that were hidden before has now been brought to the top, but is it any more likely people are going to use them more?

Now I know why it looks familiar. They're trying to sync up the interfaces across different Mobile Nation sites. The problem is the new design is for a larger community than webOS Nation, where the social features and top forums might make sense. As I've already said, the top forums section isn't that useful because there are only so any kinds of webOS devices. It's nice to be able to travel across the network with nearly the same interface, but it's better if it fits to the specific community than being one size fits all.
Regarding the increased size of things, I'm not sure if it's geared towards tablet users. If it is, they're doing it wrong. People want to see content, not a huge nav bar which is pretty much moot after they find what they need. I suppose keep buttons the same size, but squeeze everything together more. The original latest posts bar was perfect, and giving it some paint would be preferred over the new one. Shrink the mini version to be tiny (in regular font and size), and keep it mini on thread view.

Generally the new layout looks great, but the header is too big (as GMMan and geekpeter have already mentioned).

This is all great feedback folks, please keep it coming.
Perhaps the biggest issue (you guys are dead on) is the amount of information in the new super nav. Because the forums width here at webOS Nation isn't as wide... the links, buttons and search fields have less space to live. I'm going to start putting together a 'wish list' for you guys and we'll fix things. What are the TOP 3 things you'd like to see fixed/changed in the navigation?

great idea but starting to look a bit of a messy spamfest like the others tho, already heavily using my "Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock Plus" addon in firefox for the site now to hide new unwanted bits.

One thing to keep in mind too... if you click the 'X' button on the right side of the super nav... it slides up, disappears, and only the latest 'trending now' topic threads are displayed. It's much cleaner!

I guess it's my turn now
![]() I miss the "new notifications" text at the top, with the number in bold and black. Right now, going from 0 to 6 notifications, can be easy to ignore, when it looks like nothing has changed at all.... a color change, or bolding the number would make it easier to spot. Another thing i wish for, is that my own posts made with the Quick Reply box wouldn't show up as unread in my subscriptions page. When i use the Advanced Reply, it works as intended. And then when i'm on an expired search results page, the navbar is gone completely, leaving me with no way to click on "today's posts" whereas the old toolbar allowed this with no problem. |
