I don't like missing when I've been quoted, cause usually that means that something is directed at me. A notification of some kind would be nice, even more if it would show up in the mobile site also.

as a workaround, you can subscribe to threads that you are active in. Have you tried that?

All I know is that sites I have joined that pummel me with emails every time someone looks at my post is irritating at best. It might be be good opt in feature, but even then, it may turn out to be more pain than it is worth.

Secondly, Cantaffordit's option of subscribing to the thread is probably the best way to follow a subject you are interested in... though the level of emails from that can get hairy too depending on how hot the topic is.

For example, subscribing to the next WebOs Quick Install thread will net you thousands of emails.

The subscription can be sent in the form a of a weekly digest.

For me, I turn them off. If I said something I would want to see responses to, I just check back on that thread in the "new posts" link. I agree that notifications get old really fast.

But i do miss legit things. It would keep others from thinking that i might have just given up on my angle of the topic just because im not a forumholic

I hear you.... but I'm too lazy to bother subscribing...often times I've posted something and either it got lost in all the other threads or I simply forgot about it.....oh well...
Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

I hate getting emails from internet forums lol. The only emails I want are the ones that notify me of new PM's

However, I also turned off the emails for PMs.

I think it has to do with my inherent dislike of IM's, too. I refuse to use them.
