Disappearing email messages?

I have two issues with email - wondering if anyone else is experiencing them?

1. Often, when I download mail, I can't see the new items (or sometimes old items disappear) unless I go back to the folder view, and then select inbox again. For example, I'll have 4 unread messages in my box, and then get 2 more. The little circle icon will show 6 unread messages, but usually I can only see the 4 I had in there already. Although sometimes those (as well as unread messages) will disappear also until I do the "back-forward trick" again. Anyone else see this behavior, or better yet, know what to do about it?

2. With the 1.3.1 update - now the email app saves every email in my inbox. Previously, when I downloaded the messages to my laptop, the next time the Pre checked it would see they were gone and erase them all in my inbox. Now it leaves them in there. This wouldn't be a problem (an in fact, would be preferable) if there were a way to "delete all" in my inbox, or mass-select a group of messages, but if there is, I haven't found it yet. Did a setting change or did 1.3.1 change the functionality of the email client?

I can't wait for some enterprising developer to offer a 3rd Party email client! I miss Snapper on my Treo - what a great, simple app.
