I stopped using that application once I knew where the file was located and now all I do i make my own corrections to a copy of the file, fling it onto the USB storage portion of the phone and copy it over. Much easier and I always have a back-up.

I agree, while I love me Pre, I know I love it due to the great hard work of the developers here on homebrew. The Pre would just be an average phone if not for the work of these guys. I have been questioning this for a while....if these guys can do it, why not Palm. I know there is alot I don't know about behind the scenes at Palm, but..... Anyway, because of Homebrew I am addicted to my Pre and can't imagine going to another phone. Thanks Homebrew and PreCentral!!

1: Prioritize every thing that has to be worked on from bugs to new features etc. from most important to least important. Time requirements may be considered in this step. 2: Plan the process to fix or implement the new feature etc. May involve researching the community which lengthens the time of this step. 3 option A: If it is a bug being fixed track down the cause(s). This can take a very long time to do as the cause(s) are often very difficult to spot. The more code that has to be checked the longer it takes. 3 option B: If adding something code the feature using the documentation written up in the planning process step. 4: Do a preliminary build to test the fix or thing added. 5: Bug test step 4. 6: Fix any issues found in step 5. 7: Make another build and test it. Alpha test phase. 8: Fix any problems in alpha test. 9: Make another build and test it. Beta test phase. 10: Fix any problems in beta test. 11: Make another build for release to the public. 12: If plan includes adding multiple items to an update go back to step 2. 13: Once all items to be included in update are complete make a final build for the release. 14: Package the build into a file that installs it for the user. 15: Put the package on the server for the users to get it. This whole process often takes weeks to do. Each little thing may only take a day or two but since it is faster to do a big package than one package for each fix or addition it seems like it takes forever for anything to get done. Now take into consideration the community efforts and the specific example of forwarding messages. Since the community figured out how to do it don't you think as a company you would lower the priority of adding it since your community figured out how to do it? Or perhaps they are taking into consideration how the community did it and using it as a basic to plan how they would do it as well. Checking for feedback from the community to the community on said community created thing. It took so little time for someone in the community to toss out there because they skipped all the other phases a company goes through for thoroughness and quality control. Now consider how many things are in the priority list. Take your time thinking about that. How many things do you see need to be worked on? How many things have other people said need to be worked on? Ask yourself the same question about features to be added. Then list them and prioritize them. I think you will begin to see what is on their plate and what it takes to begin to get things out to the public. I'm curious your thoughts once you have done this assuming you are willing to take my little put you in their shoes experiment. |

They dont need to fix the itunes problem, they need to make XML file like RIM did with BlackBerries and they are able to sync with iTunes without a problem. Instead of playing cat & mouse just use the XML format and all problems are solved.

Speed improvements are difficult to quantify, but I have one example that is quite clear for me. The one thing that I had done in the past that now works very well is that while playing wordace, I occasionally will check words in an online dictionary after the time runs out to see why my failed word was not taken -- Or sometimes to check another persons word to see what the heck it means! Anyway, switching between wordace and any other card (e.g., web browser) while running was very sluggish. It would take sometimes 2-3 seconds to zoom out the cards, and another 2-3 seconds to switch and zoom back in. That process now happens just as fast as though wordace was not running. Sort of like they have optimized the card switch procedure. There are improvements for speed all over the place, this is just one example that really sticks out if anyone has done that before. -dpb |

I think holding the update until you have a LOT of changes is very wise. For an example of the other extreme, install a little program called Digsby on your computer. Seems like they issue updates all the time; some are major, but many are minor. It's annoying when just about every day, your login is delayed because the program has yet another new update to download. Anyway, back to WebOS 1.2.0 ... looks like one feature I was really hoping for didn't make it -- the ability to choose your own sound for incoming text messages. Every friend I talk to is impressed at what the Pre can do, but still mystified that it won't let you change the incoming txt sound! Still looking forward to the other updates (except that it won't pause songs to ring for incoming calls, as reported by others here). |

Sprint Admin rep is stating that 1.2 is not a wide customer release. It is effectively a final beta that is live in public but not a mandatory push.
