If this is trying by Palm, it's a pretty pathetic attempt. I would like to know why they are not improving functionality, but instead are making counter-intuitive changes to the UI that are completely un-needed. You shouldn't have to "pray" that they improve the phone. The reality is that it should've been there from the start, and really, if the funtionality is present in the code, why wasn't it streamlined so as to allow its implementation? This update is completely disappointing.
"Do or do not. There is not try." - Yoda to Palm after his pre update
The TP2 is the same as the TP except for it's refreshed hardware, and bigger screen. The phone itself is much better but the software is the same. It's slow, sluggish, crashes like a bad install of XP or Vista and web browsing is horrendous. I still use my TP...as a house phone. I played with the TP 2 for all of 5 minutes before deciding to go with the Pre. As for winmo 6.5, I have tried every leaked version out and it's no better than 6.1 except for a refreshed look and feel. But you are right, I think this update is disappointing...to a degree. This phone should have had all options that a "free" phone has at the beginning. For a 500$ phone, there shouldn't be any excuses whatsoever. It should just be there. But like I said, if the functionality ceases to exist in future updates, my next phone won't be a palm.

Did you use headphones at all? This seems to happen when I use my headphones, or plug into my auxillary input in my truck. For some reason, if you unplug it while music is playing, this will happen. Fix: try plugging in and out, your headphones into the headphone jack. Have a program running (Pandora, Music, Shoutcast ect.ect.) so you can hear the speaker kick back into gear.

Hopefully this helps. It did/does for me.

Actually, the Pro2 has a large number of improvements over the TP. Battery life is much better, TouchFlo is more responsive, yada yada yada. My co-worker got it when it came out, and it really is sharp.
But enough about that. This is for venting about this lackluster "update" Palm released. I liked the UI from the last update, but 1.2 needlessly messes with it, while ignoring genuine software issues. I'm right there with you, though. This is my first Palm phone, and I'm quickly moving towards having it be my last Palm phone.

Yeah, I wanna know who they are so I can kick em in the teeth!! Naw...J/K!

But it makes sense the other way. if your at the top of the app page, you can't scroll UP anymore by swiping your finger down, so swiping down fast to close seems more logical. But I guess if your at the bottom of the page, you can still scroll up.....so wouldn't it make more sense if that you were at the top, swiping down to close, and at the bottom, swiping up to close would feel more natural??

Download webOSdoctor and do a fresh install. It will automatically download 1.2. Your gonna have to search on here how to do it. Most of the how to's are in the homebrew pages. I would post links for you but I can't yet....sorry.

The GPS option is ALWAYS checked on in my "Locate Me Using" menu. I cannot get the thing to uncheck! I can uncheck the Google Service option, but not the GPS. I've tried GPS Toggle, but everytime I click it, it says "GPS is off", which suggests the GPS is always on.

Either way, even though it appears on, GPS is not working in either Google Maps nor Sprint Navigation.

Any thoughts??

Can anyone confirm if their display looks like this when trying to upload a picture? The 'Upload' menu doesn't fully expand and I can no longer see the upload account options. Screenshot:

Just grab the menu and flick/swipe up.

One thing been waiting for is either google making a pre happy docs GUI or for the browser to become advanced enough on pre to handle it. The browser does a descent job and before 1.2 update the biggest issue for me was scrolling my spread sheet.

Now with 1.2 I can scroll but seems a bit unstable when displaying a spreadsheat. It locks and a few seconds later does some sort of reboot. Its not a full reboot because it only take a few seconds to reboot but the screen blacks out and palm flashes up in center for a few seconds and im back to the default desktop.

I think there's a lot of people (myself included) who never knew about the flick down to close the launcher.

On the other hand, I think there's a lot of people who **hated** having to poke at the app/connection menus at the top of the screen. That always seemed at odds to me with the general "swipiness" of the OS.

I think they may have disabled swipe-down for launcher close to avoid potential conflicts with the new menu swipe-down, which I absolutely love.

That's probably the best explanation as to why they did changed the swipe direction. I hadn't thought of that. It does bother me because I used the swipe down to close the launcher a lot. I also like the added feature of swiping down from the top to get at the app/connection menues, but there has to be a way to integrate that with the swipre down to close the launcher. Either that, or make the animation for the launcher close go out the top of the screen instead of the bottom. The way it is feels strange to me.

Weird thing that I have seen. When i used to get a txted i could push the power button and it would show a preview of what was sent to me there. I would the unlock my phone and go to txt. Now no matter what I have to unlock my phone just to see if someone has even sent me a txt not linking it at all.

I noticed something that continues to be an issue in 1.2. Might as well mention it here since folks are reading.

After a reboot, WebOS is lightning fast. Everything scrolls smooth, animations are quick, and so on.

However, after any amount of significant web browsing (specifically browsing; other activity doesn't trigger this) the phone will feel slower until you restart it. Especially scrolling in Tweed, and the various animations you get when opening menus and such.

My suspicion is that some javascript threads or other code aren't properly cleaning up when you close browser cards.

Is anyone else seeing this? Perhaps we should report it to Palm.

NY Times app is not working correctly. I need someone to confirm my findings.

The area where you would select your section is not working and the words: Latest News is not centered like it used to be.

Thanks!

I never had this problem, even with 1.1. I receive my Vonage voicemails as WAV files via email, and have been able to listen to them, IN the email app.

email notification reappears:

post 1.2, this is still a (reproducable) problem for me.

here is a text-based re-enactment for your amusement:

* new email notification pops up
* i touch the envelope icon to go to my inbox, as i can see it's a message i don't want to read
* i swipe the unread message to the right to delete
* it appears as unread in my trash folder
* pre notifies me that i have new mail (same message, now in the trash)

this is on a pop account.

to confirm, if i simply swipe the new mail notification right to dismiss it, it does not reappear. if i read the email then delete, it does not notify again. this is the exact same problem myself (and many others) have had since 1.1. wanted to notify you all that it is not fixed in 1.2.

Upgrading to 1.2 turned the notifications sounds down to 50% on mine - had to move it back to 100% to make them barely audible once more.
