Default Rooting Question not yet answered

I posted this in the "Jailbreak" thread already but got no response.

I would like to know if it is ok to still root my Pre after I already followed the directions for installing the SDK and getting apps to install via the SDK?

All of the steps that I have seen for rooting require a specific order of doing things and since what I did puts this order into questions, will it harm my phone by just simply skipping over what I have already accomplished?

Do I need to reset my phone and start from scratch instead?

Thanks

No. I had homebrew apps on my phone for a good week before rooting, just skip the steps that tell you to download and install virtual box/sdk. It all ends up at the same place
