Default Texting Issue

I searched several keywords and could not find an answer for this. If I missed something, I apologize ahead of time.

I got several people I text on a regular basis and when I first got the phone, they all showed in the same list. As time went on, I noticed certain people were disappearing from my text log. I had to hit the letter of the contact name to do a search withing my text log for it to show.

Also, these same conversations that I had to search for could not be deleted. I would swipe them away and they would return. I even went into the conversation and deleted each line individually and the overall chat log would reappear when backing out.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, were you able to correct it? I thank you in advance for any help.

That never happens to me. Is it possible that there are some network issues you have? Try WiFi and try EVDO.

I was at a lost when this happened to me as well....until I did this...

1. Go to a the particular person in "Contacts" and bring up their screen
2. Tap on their name (at the top)
3. Tap "Link more profiles..."
4. Link them to another contact (only temporary)
5. Close contact
6. Open that person's contact again
7. Tap on their name or their link...and tap "unlink"

That person and their conversation will reappear in your "Messaging"...where you can individually delete conversations one by one or the entire conversation.

Do this for each person that no long shows up in your "Messaging" area.

Reply back and let me know how it goes...it should work for you!

You're welcome!

I figured it had to do with having long conversations left in "Messaging" over a few days. My same day short conversations remained in-tact. I constantly play with every aspect of the Pre to better understand how webOS operates.

I'm getting myself geared up to write an app soon. Wish me well

I just had the same issue (disappearing text comversations)... Sharper I tried your solution, and it worked. Thanks. I just hope I don't have to do this too often, cuz text is my preferred mode of communication.

Woah i thought I was the only one. I tried the fix and couldn't get it to work. My messaging app was tweaking out afterward, i'd open a new conversation and the send button wasn't there.

I'm thinking maybe this happens when a contact is entered into your phone book twice from different sources? Can anyone see if that's the contact that's not showing for them? That's how mine is.

Yeah I had this problem and it was fixed!

Anyone know how to delete all your texts? Also...will it just keep saving your texts with a person you regularly text until you swipe it off?

@godside, i was wondering about that too, i wanted to delete mine b/c my thread list was so freaking long. i couldnt anywhere find out how to clear out all texts. then i found out that even if you swipe them away if you universal search the person the thread shows back up, i think its just a bug palm will have to correct with an update.

Anyway to know who isn't showing up without remembering which conversations you deleted? lol
Your fix is working, but I didn't find it until after I closed some long threads and realized I was having this problem...sigh

I had this start happening to me a few days ago and couldn't find the answer on here for looking. Last night I discovered the linking thing by accident and came here today to post about it but thought I'd try searching "lost conversations" one last time. Sure enough that led me here... can't recall what search terms I was using yesterday (I think "corrupt messaging database" was one of them) but obviously not that one. lol

Thanks Sharper!

Default No linked profiles

This has been happening to me for some time and with several contacts now. Gets a lil annoying, you would think that they'd fix it on their updates already. How can we even be sure that they know about this problem? Every 3 weeks or so its like a new contact I have to fix.
Anyways, the unlink fix did it for me for the most part til I came across a contact that didn't have any other profiles linked to it. I had to delete the contact and then put it back in.
So those are the 2 ways I've dealt with the issue thus far, unlinking profile and deleting/re-entering contact.
