FIXED!!!
I had the problem and i tried the original method and it didnt work...
so I tweaked it and it worked.. this is how I did it...

I went into the contact and unlinked all his numbers... google, palm & facebook and closed the card out.
I went into the messaging and his texts were there again...

I then went back in and relinked all his cards and it is back to normal.

Hope this helps the rest of you.

ok I don't have the same problem as everyone else so tell me if anyone has ever experienced this: while trying to updt my phone with the new pkg mgr, somehow(and I say somehow becuz I have NO clue what I did to do this) I messed up my text messaging visibilty whereas I can SEE the list of msgs from various people, but can't OPEN them anymore to read the full msg. Also I tried to send one. So when I did the screen was totally blank, like no thread becuz I also had type in the name or number of the person. I couldn't physically see it was sent until I went bk the LIST. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated guys!

Mike101, you have described the exact problem I'm having with my phone.

I have tried the recommended fixes without any success... I'm afraid I have no ideas to suggest, but wanted to mention that my phone is doing the very same thing (unfortunately).

I'll keep you posted if I end up finding a way to resolve this.

My problem goes a bit further though. I have the same problem as Asierra02. His post can be found here.
Basically what has happened is this; a couple days ago I deleted the conversation with my girlfriend. I thought since it had a lot of messages inside the conversation, by doing this it would free up some memory and my phone would run faster.

So after I deleted the conversation, I started up a new conversation with the same contact, and sent a new text. To my surprise, when the text sent, it loaded up my old conversation I had previously deleted. I thought nothing of it, swiped back to go into the conversations list to delete it again. But when I got into the conversations list, the conversation wasn't there.
I did the same thing, composed a new message with the same contact, sent it, and when it sent BAM! There was the whole conversation again. But, again, when I would go into the conversation list it never showed.

So I read up on the internet to see if anyone else had experienced this problem also. I found a lot of people with the same problem as I did.

So I looked through all the fixes people used.

I opted for the partial erase as I thought it would be best to have a fresh start. But, that didn't seem to work. I then did the full erase..and again, no luck. So i deleted the contact then created it again, but that didn't work. I tried the linking and unlinking method explained here, but again that doesn't seem to work for me.

Up to now I have done both the partial and full erase about 3 times each, and it still doesn't seem to want to fix itself.

Now it's the 30th, and when I try to send a text to this particular person, what happens is the screen looks as though it is frozen. Like as if it's waiting to load something, like it's looking for something to load (the conversation history maybe?).

Do I have a lemon? Do I go to bell and demand a new phone, or does it look like I have missed something and I can easily fix this.

Please help, I am getting pretty fed up with this.

Exact same problem, tried every fix listed in the months above and none work, plus can't text this person anymore.. No record of their conversation at all.

I get the little notification at the bottom of screen when they text me and then when I click on it, disappears and absolutely nothing in the text threads. Of course this is person I text the most so frustrating doens't begin to describe. Thanks Pre!!

Same problem. Link/Unlink doesn't work. I got one of my contacts to reappear by deleting them and re-adding, but this doesn't work for the others. However, even when I have them deleted from my Contacts, their name still shows when I search in Messaging, not their number; I thought that was weird.
