Angry Dead pixel on Pre, sprint wont let me return it!!!

Hey guys, I need an opinion I bought a palm pre on launch day and I saw that it has a dead pixel in the upper right corner of the screen, now obviously I can still use the phone, but i figured since Im still in my 30 day period with sprint that I could exchange it, so yesterday I called the sprint store that I got it from and they said yea I could bring it in for an exchange just bring the box and everything. So I go today and I talked to a guy that worked there and showed him the dead pixel but he said they cant take it back because the phone still works and the manager was in the back and he talked to him. This isnt a corporate sprint store but its an official reseller, so what should I do?

I have like 2 weeks till the 30 day period ends. A phone should be perfect when you get it, so in my book a dead pixel is a defect. Im mad right now and kind of thinking of just cancelling my service and going back to my old provider (verizon) or to att.

You need to go to a Sprint Corp store. Those third party dealers are pretty shaddy sometimes.

Does anyone know the official Palm stance on LCD displays? Most manufacturers will only do exchanges on screens with x number of bad pixels within a certain distance of each other. I'm at work so not searching too hard, but I was unable to find any official policy from Palm. It would be immensely helpful for the community (and Palm) to know their stance on this.

Defective pixel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Some manufacturers have a zero-tolerance policy with regard to LCD screens, rejecting all units found to have any number of (sub-)pixel defects. Displays meeting this standard are deemed Class I. Other manufacturers reject displays according to the number of total defects, the number of defects in a given group (e.g. 1 dead pixel or 3 stuck sub-pixels in a 5x5 pixel area), or other criteria.

In some cases, the manufacturer sends all screens to sale, and then replaces the screen if the customer reports the unit as faulty and the defective pixels meet their minimum requirements for return."

Really, having just 1-2 stuck pixels on a display is not bad at all. How many people here have bought more than a few LCDs and had 0 defects on 100% of them? Not me!

I traded my dead pixel one in for the last one in the store and it had another dead pixel.... Seems quality control was pretty lax in making these devices... Im just gonna put up with it...

I dont get me wrong, I believe you guys are having this problem but in all my years of buying electronic devices I never noticed "dead pixels".

Maybe my eyes are going

Mine has stuck pixels now. Whenever there's a black or dark background you can see it. Instead of going opaque the pixel stays lit.

called the corporate store out of curiosity and mentioned the usual dead pixel, light leakage, etc...very minor defects. they were happy to help w/ the exchange. this is one of the smaller locations. i'm not sure if you'd get the same courtesy at a larger corp store.

Thanks guys for all your help, unfortunately I decided to go with another service and returned my Pre today. I guess this issue broke the straw on the camels back. But its mostly because sprints service was spotty in my area for data. But Ill still be frequenting the site I still love the pre and if it was on a didn't service provider at the moment I would still have it. I have for sale my official palm pre leather case and 2 sets of best skins ever. in the sales section $40 for the whole set via paypal, if anyone's interested let me know. Thanks again guys.

Seriously though, good luck with whatever service / phone you end up going with.

This all makes no sense. they let you return it, but wouldnt replace it? Its the same exact thing. Either way they are going to refurb it.

My same thoughts exactly, the guy that told me I couldn't exchange it wasn't there at the time I returned it. But his manager was, and he was there the day when I tried to exchange it. But its sprint's lost now so if those guys are cool with that then so be it.
