Default Screen Twisting Like An Oreo = Normal?

So, my Pre has decided that while closed it's going to be incredibly twistable...like not a little give, but a LOT. It's progressively gotten worse since I bought it last Friday...so 8 days ago. It's a black box one...I've heard people commenting about diff. box colors so I thought I'd specify.

Here's the question...I know I am allotted 30 days, but I already sent in my rebate form...will they still swap out my Pre for another?? Or is the Pre supposed to twist like this? I've just never seen a slider have so much...flexibility, I guess...while closed. If anything, I'd assume there was more movement while up!

Any suggestions?

My first one had the small battery issue and some pixel issues with the screen - my second Pre has a very loose slider with a gap in the slider at the top left that you could almost fit a penny in and it twists - some. I was on the list for a third - but when it got here, it had the same issue with the slider - so I wouldn't let them swap me out.

I'm still waiting on a my 3rd pre... we'll see if 3rd times the charm?

As far as I understand it the 30 days does not count for replacement hardware. If the phone is broken and you have the insurance or especially since it's still under warranty, the 30 day money back doesn't come into play at all. Go get a replacement because it really sounds like your pre's sliding hinges are messed up.

Mine is a black box also and I have no issues with twisting and I am constantly opening and closing the phone.

Also, just because you sent in the rebate doesn't mean they won't replace the device. The rebate has nothing to do with you being given a defective unit. If you were straight up returning the pre and getting an instinct or something then you'd have to worry about the rebate.

There are two different services that come with the $7 a month. One is ESRP which is in-store repair, which covers cracked screens, loss of service, manufacture defects, etc...the other is TEP which covers everything from water damage to physical damage(ex if you run over your phone in a puddle it is COVERED), lost or stolen. So YES, water damage is covered with the $100 deductible. In store service has no fee with the plan, without the plan it is $35 - $55 depending on the repair.

I have run into an issue where customer would lie and say their phone had no contact with water when it obviously did and they would call the insurance and say "well the repair place said it was water damage", the insurance rejected it. Had the customer call right back in and say they dropped it in the tolet and they replaced it with no problem. So it all depends how you word everything when talking to the insurace guys. But either way it is covered.

Just got mine today, yellow box, and aside from 1 dead pixel, the only other issue I have is it being a bit twisty when closed. When closed I can (while holding the back firm) twist it clockwise about 1mm (from the top of the unit clockwise to the right). Rest of the phone feels solid.

as of right now the pre is not being worked on in store. Any issue covered by ESRP is being fixed off site...

I spoke to a Sprint store manager in my area and he has been in contact with Palm since I'm not the first one to report this. According to him, this is *normal* behavior. He tells me that the loose display was done of purpose otherwise the rail would break off very easily if dropped. The added play on the display portion reduces the risk of breakage significantly. Now he did tell me it should not become more loose over time -- if it does that I should bring it in. Not my words - just his and Palm's.

That's funny, so why do other pres like my wifes have no movement at all? From what that manager told you my wife has a defective pre. I can see us going in to a sprint store and saying
''my wifes pre's screen does not wobble at all and is solid, we would like an exchange for a wobbling screen and not so much of a solid pre. This one is defective.''

What a laugh. That manager lied like a rug. Palm would never say such a stupid thing, he just did not want to an exchange for you. He rather sell it to a NEW customer. Man, use your head.

Actually I didn't come in for an exchange - I just asked him a question. Further, my pre hardle wobbles and it doesn't bother me. In fact it's barely noticeable.

Mine wobbles a tiny bit. The screen will twist clockwise and click sometimes when I try to hit the power button when the phone is in my left hand. Definitely annoying.

Mine has the "Oreo wobble" as best described here. My fathers Pre has no issues, no gap, and no wobble. I am really tempted to exhange it, cause it does feel like a POS sometimes (especially when cleaning the screen, and the two halves move up and down way too easily) but I am afraid to get one in WORSE shape.

Sad we even have to think like that.

it is two separate, functioning pieces. Some give is normal. People should stop twisting the thing. If it rotated on its own, then I would consider it a problem, otherwise.... it's as designed and only time will tell if it is a weak spot or not.

Mine is neither tight nor super loose. It is obvious there is some play, yet I have never been tempted to see how far I could actually twist it off the rails. Functions perfectly

Ya I can only twist it when I read these threads and grip in a way to twist it. In my 2 weeks of having the phone no one has notices a wobble in regular use including me. To get mine to wobble I have to have my left hand on the back and my right hand on the front and twist. I never hold my Pre like that in regular use.

I completely agree. It's a two piece phone guys, it's not going to be rock solid like a one piece. Mine has play in it when it's closed, but honestly, if I didn't try and twist it on purpose I would never know. All I really care about is if it feels solid when it's opened because I WOULD notice that, and mine is rock solid when opened.

Every flip phone I ever owned had play in it. Unless they make two piece phones from machined stainless steel and use ball bearings, there will be play.

Me too. I mean yea I can hold it and twist the top a little, but during normal use I don't notice it. The play is by design, try twisting any phone that has a slide out keyboard and I'll bet there is some slop or play. If there wasn't the phone would break apart after one drop. Just don't OCD over it and you won't even notice it.

I don't think this issue is worth exchanging your pre over. Mine has a little give in it and it doesn't bother me at all.

Same issue here, mine is a big gap and has a lot of "oreo-ing", however was REFUSED an exchange at 2 different sprint stores (including the location I purchased the phone from). Called good old *2 and talked to a nice rep (who spoke English very well too) and said he is noting my account and that I AM eligible for an exchange no matter what the issue up to 30 days from date of purchase... whether it's a big or small issue

If I went to a Sprint store that did repairs could they tighten the rails? I got a Pre with a great screen and no heat issues so I'd hate to trade it in because it jiggles back and forth.

Saying it should twist is crap. Ive had a Tytn, Tytn II, Touch Pro, Etc and they have ROCK SOLID sliders. This whole 'its in two pieces and should rock to avoid damage when dropped' is complete crap. Anyone saying this as a rep for either sprint or palm is lying to prevent you from returning it for yet another defective phone.
