Default Looks like I finally got an oreo...

It seems that I now have a very moderate oreo effect going on on my pre. I don't wanna run the risk of doing any of the DIY oreo fixes so I was wondering, would the 1 year factory warranty cover this? could I simply take my pre to a customer service center hand have them replace my pre or would they fix it? Like I said, I have a very moderate oreo effect and I would just like to get it fixed before it gets worse. Any suggestions?

Sprint is not allowed to "open up" the phones for repair. They are not doing very good on exchanging phones outside of the 30 days. They pretty much tell you it's cosmetic, or refer you to Palm, which means you'll be without your phone for a while....good luck.

I would think that a LITTLE bit of give is normal, no? Mine's not exactly going "off the rails" like someone else said - 1mm tops (I measured). I went under the battery and clamped the shoes down a bit more and it still shifts.

Like Bender in The Breakfast Club said: "Screws fall out all the time, the world's an imperfect place". No dead pixels, good reception, no other issues, so I really think a little shift isn't going to bug me.

After talking to Sprint about mine, it seems it can go either way. One thing about that plan is, if they want, they can charge you the $100 deductable. I also figured out that you will more than likely get a refirb with the same oreo issues.

Our Sprint Store will open it. They don't follow that rule. They will do whatever it takes to not give you a replacement.

ame, are they actually able to fix the oreo problem? If so, I'd like to know how!

best bet is to call customer service. i know that sounds odd, but most of the time they will actually try to help you. just tell them you're reluctant to exchange at a store because you feel like you get the 'run around.' they respond very well usually and will try to help you out within their restraints.

Call Palm support and tell them about the problem. They will give you two options: 1) bring it to a repair center, or 2) for $31.48 they will send you a new phone. They call it an Advance Return. I've done this, and it usually takes about a week. MY problem has been that the first phone I received had a huge gap, so I sent it back and got a second sent to me. The next phone hage a big color blob in the upper left corner, so I sent that back as well. I think I'm going to stick with the one I have now. The oreo isn't that bad, and it seems like the majority of the phones have this problem develop after use.
On the oreo subject, I really don't think it is a problem with the slides being too loose. They need to have some give to avoid breaking. For the phones I've seen with oreo, the problem has been that the tiny plastic tab in the upper left corner between the from and the back isn't high enough to stop the screen from sliding clockwise. Take a look between and you'll see it. If you hold the front and the back tightly together and try to twist the screen, this tab stops that from happening. IMHO, the plastic edge that frames the mirror needs to be deeper (the mirror needs to be recessed further into the back of the screen), letting the tab become higher to prevent the twist. Of course, if the gap between the front and the back of the phone wasn't there, or if they were held tighter together, the tab would work fine, but even if that were the case, it would still be possible to twist the phone past the tab. What if there were a tab that was able to softly lock in place. maybe spring loaded or something similar, that would hold the screen in place, but could give when the screen was slid up. A lot more complicated, and more pieces to break, but it would solve the problem. Not going to happen, so I'll live with the slight twist. This phone is way too cool to worry about this small issue.

My 3rd Pre doesn't twist at all. There's an immediate hard stop when I put any pressure on it that would make it twist. It makes an audible tapping noise as I feel it being prevented from twisting by something.

I think if your phone doesn't do this, it's technically got the wobble. It all comes down to what you'll tolerate really. It's noticeably different than my 2nd Pre which twisted about 1mm.

I'm at my wits end. My family and I all bought our Pres together, and mine seems to be the only one with the oreo effect. I'm beginning to be able to see the innards of the phone for heaven's sake. Problem is, Sprint will do NOTHING about it. They keep telling me it's normal and to be thankful that it isn't worse. This thing is barely 11 days out of the box. I'm a college student and therefore away from my family currently. I've been to three different Sprint stores and as soon as they lay eyes on me they tell me to get lost, or they assume that the problem is due to me damaging the phone. I have never once dropped it and I have it in the protective full body invisibleSHIELD thing. One rep even went as far as to tell me to get out of the store and quit harassing him over something "I probably did myself while drunk or something".

I'm really upset and don't know what to do. I'm about to do fly back down to home and have my mother come with me and sort things out. What else can I do? I've talked to Palm and everyone I've talked to there tells me to return the phone, but when I try and return it I'm turned away and told that either I'm to blame for it or that the problem is normal and occurs with all Pres. Any advice on what I should do? It's easily within the 30 day replacement period for Sprint and the 90 day one with Palm and yet Sprint is basically giving me the finger on this.

@Mjb1313:

At my count, you've had your Pre now for 16 days. My advice is to return the phone for a refund and have them re-activate whatever old phone you had before you got the Pre. Then as soon as your refund clears, buy the Pre again at Best Buy or another Sprint store.

Oh, and if they try to scam you out of a $35 restock fee, have them apply it to your bill and call customer support when you get home. Just read them the terms at the bottom of the receipt that say in black and white that the restock fee only applies to "exchanges for a different model or color" and they'll take it off your bill immediately. Charging you a restock fee for a 30-day refund is just a scare tactic.

The store MUST accept your return for refund if it's within the first 30 days as long as the phone is unharmed. These stores seem pretty convinced it's "normal" the way it is, so make them put their money where their mouth is. If the still refuse, call customer support from the store and explain the situation.

FWIW, I've been in the exact same situation and everything I mention above worked for me.

It sounds like you're homesick. It sounds like you have a family plan most likely set up by Mom and the customer service are giving you the work-around that you don't own the contract. I would call mom and ask her to report your problem and that should work. No need to jump on a plane dude.

A buddy of mine had the same run around with returning his oreo Pre. To get around this excuse he used his own excuse. He told them that his Pre was locking up on him 5 or 6 times a day and that it occurred randomly. He also stated that he tried doing a soft and hard reset per Tech support and that did not fix the problem. Basically, if they don't want to give you another phone because of the oreo effect, give them another reason.

I only tell you this because sprint should give you another phone regardless of what the reason is. Best Buy or the late Circuit City never asked me why I wanted to return something or exchange something. All the sprint store does is send your old Pre back to Palm.
