Audacity is free. So, it is free cost. And it s the best ... you can use other, but s is less useful and often more expensive.

great thread. Etremely useful for not only ringtones, I also use em for customized battery notifications for 20% and 10%.

Audacity is a great tool for chopping and editing your own ringtones, and even combining them in a 30second remix

I have a problem: I make my own ringtone, an mp3 clip about 25 seconds long, then copy that to the 'ringtones' directory on my verizon palm pre +. Then, when i open up the "sounds and ringtones" window on my phone, the new ringtone is listed there, BUT it is labeled as "unknown", not the name of the song i gave it.

Anyone know why? This is a problem, because i want to add a lot more ringtones and i can't keep track of them if they all show up in the phone list as 'unknown' ,,, Thanks!
