Looks like Gizmodo is reporting on this. I'm sure Engadget won't be far behind...
It's good though. Maybe now Palm or Sprint will actually address the issue. Edit - Good grief, how do I keep getting top-of-paged? I swear I'm not doing it on purpose... |

I, too, have been having these issues. The longer the phone is on (as in actively being used, so that the screen is on) the more pronounced the spot becomes. It appears yellowish over a white background, and white-ish over dark backgrounds.
I took a few pics - the camera really can't detect the yellow on the white (doesn't come thru well at all) so I focused on dark backgrounds. I've posted 6 picks on flikr, showing either the App Catalog background or the YouTube app background. Even the light-splotch-on-dark background doesnt come thru on the pic as well as I'd like. Anyway, trust me, it is VERY noticeable in person. Probably comes thru the best on Pic 3. Here they are, should be six of them total: Ok...i cant post a pic or a link because I havent posted ten times. Add a www before this stuff: "flickr.com/photos/37868917@N04/tags/pre/" Saturday night i used the phone for a good 3 hours and the splotch was VERY evident. Very dark, very yellow on the white SMS screen. It appeared that the center was located at about the 4th or 5th letter I would type in at the SMS screen. Then, on dark screens it was VERY white, and it was even very evident while viewing a YouTube video. I went to one sprint store (woodfield mall) and they basically ignored it. Called another sprint store (rolling meadows) and they said they would give me a new one, but only because I bought the insurance on the phone for $7/month. Glad I did get the insurance, but for people who have this problem and don't have the insurance, that is crap...this is a PHONE issue and those of us experiencing defective units should all be given a new unit, for FREE. I wish Palm and/or Sprint would make a statement so that no one gets hassled while trying to get this problem fixed. I plan on calling my Sprint store until they have new stock in, then going in and getting a new one that (hopefully) doesn't have this issue. Just for the record, other than this, I am *VERY* happy with the Pre. |

For the lazy, here's the link.
Yup, that's pretty much it right there. Mine looks exactly like that, except the splotch is a little more to the right. It definitely gets more pronounced with heat. I've also noticed a much smaller one in the lower left hand corner of the screen. You usually can't see it because the screen rounds off the edges, but it's definitely there and apparent in certain apps. I keep going back and forth on whether or not I should return it. I'm mainly worried that I might get one that is worse. |

I've bright got splotches in both lower corners...I can try to get a good photo later. I could be off base here, but mine seem to be brighter/more noticeable the times the Pre has been hot (either during charging or low signal). When they are really bad, on a white screen/page they almost appear yellow.
Given their location and where they generally are (behind the corner "buttons" usually), they're not very intrusive, but I do worry about the issue spreading, especially if it is heat related. If Sprint will honor an exchange for it, I will go that route, but only once more units are in stock so that I can do it same-day. |

wanna try taking a picture of the test screen? go to device info, more info, preferences, interactive tests, screen, and it will show all one solid color (red green blue white) Post an image of that so we can distinguish fades if you can, but i do see an obvious problem on yours

Dookie, thanks for posting the link.
As far as getting one that is worse...I personally know only one other person who has a Pre, and his has no problems. On top of that, neither of my Sprint stores had heard of the problem. That leads me to believe that this isn't a very common problem. I know there are a lot of posts on these threads about people having the problem, but that's probably because the people who have the problem are the ones posting...maybe that is wishful thinking, but I think it is worth it to exchange for another one, as long as it is an on-the-spot exchange. Worst case, you get one that is worse and then do another exchange... |

Yeah that green screen shows the lines on the bottom of brighter area, its barely noticable but im holding mine up to that and mine has nothing of the sort. Id call ahead to a sprint store and see if they have stock to exchange your unit. im sure they would exchange it hassle free.

My discolorations are not small nor unnoticeable. Even using those tests I have brown clouding on the white screen and white clouding on blue and green. On red it is hardly noticeable. For me this is not a deal breaker. I understand there will be problems like this. But I most likely will exchange mine soon.

me and my buddy are getting pres on the 10th. Looks like we will be waiting till we hear a bit more about this
i really dont think a firmware upgrade is gonna help much... but well see! if not a firmware fix...what would fix this...? Palm manufacturing pres from this date forward with the problem fixed? and selling them like it never happened? i hope they fix this. if not im gonna hold out on the pre until i know that is resolved. SO LONG IPHONE i might miss u!

The bottom email listed on my screen when I open my inbox has lighter text than the ones above it (if i scroll upwards, it turns darker). Is this what they mean by light leakage on the bottom of the screen? Do others have this?

Def could be the problem... When the light is leaking through it can do that.. Imagine holding up a piece of paper wither writing on it.. and then taking a flashlight and holding it right behind the paper and text. Thats almost the same effect.
