Ok, I went right back to the store after I noticed mine, and got a different one. It was working fine, then I started using the touch stone, now I'm not sure, but I'm wondering if the touchstone is the cause of this problem ? When it gets warm the Blotches come back not as bad as the previous Pre I had..

Mine did seem to go away after cooling, yes. I was confused too, because when I got to work I started playing around on it again and I couldn't find the splotches I had mentioned before and thought they had just disappeared with use. However, after using it a bit and feeling it heat up, sure enough they came back.
Speaking of, why are these things getting so hot anyway? Is everyone's this hot? I'm not even using the touchstone, just regular use makes the back of it very, very warm. I'm not liking that so much. |

I don't have the touchstone and I see it on some screens FWIW. As someone said, Pandora or any of the deeper blue screens seem to exagerate it for me. It reminds me of screen bleed like I had on my Inspiron 8000 that I likened to the Aurora Borealis. That laptop, which I might add is still going strong, never seemed to be bothered by it. It really was more of an aesthetic thing. I know nothing of cellphones so I don't know if this is more ominous and will read and watch carefully.

So, do you guys all think that Sprint stores will accept this return? I mean it is totally not any of our faults. It's not like its a HUGE deal, but at the same time, it is a new device. What is the general concensus for this problem?

I think most people are still in "wait and see" mode. We're still less than 10 hours out from launch at this point, so it might be too early to get a definitive answer on what's going on with this issue. To me, the heat is more of an issue than the screen itself (partly because the heat seems to be causing the screen issues), so that's what I really would like to get some answers on.

So Sprint exchanged my Pre for a new one (my J key didn't depress). I decided to charge the new Pre with the regular charger this time instead of the Touchstone and guess what...
...the Pre developed a white splotch down the right side of the phone next to the USB port as it heated up. I think it's pretty much confirmed by all of us that the Pre screen is affected by heat and develops splotches where the heat is applied. With the Touchstone its more universal and seems to be at the bottom of the screen; with the regular USB charger it develops splotches on the right side next to the port. I wonder how Palm is going to respond to this

I'm in Rancho Cucamonga, they're sold out now.. This was this morning around 10am. I got there at 6am and was the 1st there. I noticed the blotches and took it back around 10. I got the last one, they sold out of 50 of them that quick.. They're getting more on Monday..

I bought 2 this morning. mine worked perfectly and my wife's phone number wasn't connected to their system (or something like that) anyway they fixed it. I mentioned the blotchy charging problem and he was aware of it. He also said Palm is aware of it and they are working on firmware fix for it. They started off with 95 Pre's and sold out by 1pm. Sold out of touchstones before I got there at 8:30am. I ordered 2 and they're being shipped.

When the phone isn't hot, no. However, when the phone starts warming up, you start to notice a little. Its not as bad as the 1st one I had, where it was noticeable all the time. This one only shows SOMETIMES when its warm. I'm gonna see how it goes over the next few days.

Face it. You get defensive like a little girl whenever any derogatory news is presented about your favorite little toy here. Incidentally, I was calling you a buffoon. "foon" was short. I find it amusing that you take all this time to analyze my posts here. If you didn't believe me, all you had to do was ignore the posts. Its relatively simple. But I know I've got you all upset otherwise you wouldn't be taking the time trying to insult me. As far as effeminate goes, if a swat isn't emphatic enough for you, I'd be happy to provide you with a much heavier slam to the head just let me know. I've always had one hell of a left cross. It would be my pleasure to provide you with a demonstration. I'm flattered that you take the time to look into my profile by the way - now I KNOW I've gotten under your skin. Lol. Admit it. You're bitter because you've got distortion, crashes and light leakage. Last edited by treobk214; 06/06/2009 at 09:01 PM. |

Wow,i've noticed it on mine too. It's not so bad that I feel the need to take it back. It sure is annoying though.
Good call guys. It does seem to only happen when it gets hot.
