Small little dot bottom left of the screen. It's heat related, I believe. Didn't see it until the phone started warming from use. I'd wager that they will do this, unless it's really bright I'd not worry about it.

The one guy with that severe light leakage .. he needs to take it back..

Dead pixels happen .. in fact there's a quota in the industry before it's a problem.

These are really advanced (1.0) devices, let's all just calm down just a tid bit and see where this goes. if you have dead pixels, leave the screen protector on it, and wait for a few days. If it REALLY bugs you that much, then .. you got 30 days to take it back.

As these devices burn in, some of this might go away, it might get worse. But we're not getting anywhere with hysterics..

I got my Pre around 8:30AM. I was 9th out of over 30-40 people! I noticed the aforementioned distortion issue once I got home. I would actually call it more of a discoloration, than distortion, since the image quality seems unaffected.

I quickly went back to the Sprint store to show them, and to see what they would do. My Pre was passed around, and everyone concluded that it was a hardware issue. They immediately (no wating in line again) replaced that Pre with another. The second one showed no signs of discoloration in the store, but once I got home, I noticed a very small amount of discoloration, but in different areas. The replacement is MUCH better. The discoloration is very hard to see, unless you are looking for it, and even then, it is only detectable when viewing certain solid backgrounds.

I believe that this phenomenon is a result of physical stress on the display itself that may be exacerbated by heat. It just seems like it only becomes noticeable after you have been using the device for a while.

My 2 cents.

Woah, after leaving it off for a while to mess with the pictures and jack my post count up, mine seem to have diminished a little. I'll keep an eye on when it comes and goes and report back.

Gregg,

I have the EXACT same discolorations on the bottom of my screen. I'll post some photos later. I can't return mine today because the store sold out by 9:00 a.m. I'll monitor it and take it back this week if necessary. So weird. Everything else is super slick.

Yep that's it. Little whiteish "blobs". they are a lot more obvious than in the pictures. My photography skills suck (and I took it with that piece-of-crap TouchPro, lol). :-)

Man you guys are anal. Personally I think this screen looks awesome. Even I didnt notice anything until you guys posted pics. 99% of the time you don't even see it. My iPhone did the exact same thing, and actually it was much worse than my pre. It's just slightly uneven backlighting. I dont have or see in any of the pics the "distortion" you guys are talking about.

I don't have a pre jet but have been following the forums. There has been alot of talk about do not remove battery will cause the phone unspecified damage. Has anyone with this light problem removed their batteries as well? Just checking.

I have not removed the battery and I have the discolorations. I think it's pretty reasonable to be anal when I spent almost $400 at Sprint this morning. I'll see if it fades away, but I'm returning it if not.

I never removed my battery and it had the same issue along with dead or hot pixels. My store is freaking awesome they took it back and gave me a new one, no problem.

Looks like the flashlighting you get on some LCD panels. No real way to fix it except with a replacement.

If this didn't cost as much as it does then yes, but come on after dropping 300-600 then hell no. I expect to get better quality for my money.

And treobk, you aren't just reporting... you are "confirming" things - impying you own a Pre... which you don't.

By the way... I think this so-called distortion has more to do with the color/background of the app you are using. I see similar "sploches" in the SprintTV app only... other apps, I don't see it. I doubt this is a hardware thing, because if it were, I'd see it all over, wouldn't I?
You don't know jack, pal. You guys are some of the more entertaining 'foons around these parts, I tell ya.

One story about a verizon pre and here you are all bent out of shape.
If you don't believe the story, simply don't respond!!! Would that not be sensible?

Except it is clear you appear to be bothered by it otherwise you wouldn't be making these nonsensical suppositions.

You have no idea whether or not I bought the pre. FACT.

(swats him away)

Anyways, back about the distortion... I don't really notice it but I do notice THE ONE DEAD PIXEL I HAVE. I'll be returning this Pre on Monday or Tuesday for a shiny new one. Again. -sigh- Why can't I get a perfect phone the first time!?

I would definitely call what I am observing on my Pre a discoloration, rather than a distortion. Lower right hand corner of the screen looks quite yellow on a white background, and just brighter on any other background.

We have two here for comparison. Mine shows the discoloration, the other one looks fine.
