I have purchased a backup Pre off of ebay, so that in the case that my Sprint Pre dies I can replace it. I did this because of all the scattered reports that Ashureon (if I spelled that right) has not been able to replace Sprint Pre's. Anyways, I don't believe I can walk in the Sprint store and say "Here is my phone that died, here is the phone you can replace it with...now make it work." If I can by all mean let me know. Otherwise, I would like to know what steps I can take to replace my Pre myself.

I have already backed up my stuff using preware's Save/Restore app, as well as copied my USB partition. I also backed up my palm profile via the backup app on the phone. So what is next.

I wanna say you can do it online by going to sprint.com and adding a phone to your account and follow the instructions there...

As long as your replacement has a clean ESN number they will do it. You can also do it on sprints website yourself.

There should be a link next to your phone in sprints website that says "upgrade/replace" or something like that, and it'll walk you right through it easy!

So, how can I check to see if it has a clean ESN. I completely forgot to check that when buying.

you can install your old comm board into the replacement Pre and then not worry about the ESN.

If you do that you have to also copy the tokens of the donor comm board and do the Pre Plus hack to get it to work. You'd be better off getting a Pre Plus and have a Plus on Sprint. I did it and its hands down better than the Pre Minus I had. Plus by using the same ESN, you avoid the $10/mo add on for a smartphone ESN change.

You can go onto Sprint chat online and give them the ESN and it will tell you if its clear or not.

Palm m100 => Palm IIIx => Palm Zire 72 => Cingular Treo 650 => Sprint Palm 700p (w/755 ROM) => Sprint Palm 755p => Sprint Palm Centro => Sprint Palm Pre => Sprint FrankenPre Plus => Franken Palm Pre 2 on Sprint w/ working Nav and Sprint TV!

Family lines: Wife => Palm Centro Daughter => Palm Pixi

Living the Palm brand since 1999....and that's gotten me this!?
    RIP Palm OS and WebOS

I believe for the 10 dollar charge it needs to be a different phone. And couldn't you just take the comms and motherboard out of the old pre and put it in the new one (minus to minus) w/o tokens to worry about? If not then I'm way off lol.

I just got a free replacement for a cracked housing around the USB last week from a sprint repair store. No questions asked. Ordered one and it was there the next day.

You're right...forgot to mention the tokens too. They must be swapped with the comm board.

From what I had heard, any smartphone swap except at TEP swap would incur the 10/mo fee. Even pre to pre. I'd love to be wrong though...
