I want to see the face on the warranty guy when someone sends in one of these mutant phones after it shorts out.

They shouldn't. His face will say "Give me $100 bucks to throw this away and give you a refurbished Sprint Pre Minus".

But what if you try to warranty it at Verizon?

everything working well day 2 now!!

since I don't have a working sim, I couldn't do anything wiht the At&T pre plus before starting the whole process. Not to worry metadoctor to the rescue, I created an AT&T pre plus metadoctor for this with bypass first use app and bypass activation That allowed me to boot up the device. Important to do this before com swap and extract the tokens. (explained earlier)

After the creation of the at&t pre minus mutant, followed instructions again on page one but replaced 'pre' with 'pre-plus' and 'sprint' iwth 'att' in the makefile to create yet another metadoctor. This time i enabled bypass first use app and bypass carrier / device check. Running the first use app, it started to ask me for network unlock code (used an old T-mobile sim to get it running).

puchased an unlock sim number for the At&T pre minus. Anyway, the unlocked worked excellent (just needed to find a 32-bit windows 7 system). Needed to search on google for a palm pre usb passthrough keygen code to get into the DIAG usb mode as per nextgen instructions.

Easy way to install Palm Novacom I found...use webos DOCTOR to just advance to the point where it says checking system--this will force it to install palm novacom. Just remember NOT to press next otherwise a reformat will begin.

Now ready to take the AT&T mutant out on venture. Need to buy a pre-paid sim or borrow a friends sim?

So my entire process consisted of:
    0. Install Virtualbox, Ubuntu as described on page one for windows from the link.
    1. Sprint - extract tokens from /tmp/tokens using INternalz and copy to /media/internal
    2. AT&T metadoctor to get the tokens before starting anything (optional)
    3. AT&T - extract tokens from /tmp/tokens using INternalz and copy to /media/internal(optional)
    4. perform surgery and com swap (and antenna wire containing back swap)
    5. SPrint metadoctor as described on page one for the pre-plus on sprint using a webpage or email for easy copy of tokens for castle.xml
    6. AT&T metadoctor as described on page one for the pre-minus/at&t or email for easy copy of tokens for castle.xml(optional)
    7. Run regular sprint doctor to get the sprint apps back
    8. Unlock AT&T using nextgen (optional)

    WebOS INternals and precentral ROCKS!!!!

thanks ashi! I ended up doing just that!

Anyone know : should there be any issue with traveling with Franken-pre overseas? (either Sprint pre-plus or At&T pre-minus?)

AT&T if it's unlocked, just buy a SIM and plug it in.

Sprint you practically couldn't go anywhere without paying exorbant fees, since there's not many CDMA networks out there worldwide, world speaks GSM. And get ready for roaming fees.

Hey all -- I potentially have a short-timeframe opportunity to buy a Pre-Plus which already has a completed sprint comms board swap. (Obviously, I can't know how "well" that swap was done so I understand I should be cautious about that...) However, the seller has noted that the device is still running a VZW WebOS -- and has not been Dr'd to Sprint.

First of all, I'm not even sure that what the seller is saying is possible... I would imagine the device wouldn't boot into VZ WebOS with a sprint Comms board... maybe I'm reading the seller's PM message wrong... But anyway, if the seller is right and just the physical swap has been completed, my question is this:

Can I use my own Sprint Pre to grab the appropriate tokens and then follow instructions from the meta-Dr'ing through Sprint 1.4.5 Doctoring?.... Should this result in a working Sprint Pre+.

Also, would my current Sprint Pre-minus still be usable? (since in this case, I am using the tokens, but not my actual physical comms board --- I'm not familiar with how tokens work if they are unique identifiers or just generic references)

Thanks in advance.... Normally, I'd search more robustly, but if the seller tells me this device is still available later, I want to be able to make an informed decision and I just don't have time to read through all 45 pages before then.

I just wanted to thank you guys again for your hardwork. After a long night last week I now have my own Pre Plus on Sprint. Thanks to all of your posts it was actually pretty easy to follow and get everything done correctly. This was my first time using Linux and Rod your metadoctor page is great. So not only did successfully create my Pre Plus I learned a lot as well. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

I believe the tokens are tied to the specific comm board, so even if you purchased the swapped board Pre, you would either need to retrieve the tokens for that comm board from the source of the donor Pre, or you would need to swap your own comm board and retrieve your own tokens from your own Pre.

How do I save the tokens from the AT&T pre plus just in case? Would I be doing it the same exact way that I do it for the Sprint Pre?

    Yes.

Dev mode, use Novacom to extract the token list. If device is not activated, use Meta-Doctor to turn on Dev mode and get past First Use, then extract.

If you can install homebrew packages, use the "Generate castle.xml file" option in the Show Properties homebrew app from WebOS Internals.

If not, do what Tony says above.

Anyone doing that is committing fraud and should be shunned from the community.

Thanks, Rod. I did just that.

It's the rest that I'm having some trouble with, but I'll try to figure it out before I annoy anyone.

I know there have been a couple of posts in this thread about poor bluetooth connectivity after doing the conversion. I finally fixed mine and if anyone needs help with it let me know I will be glad to help out.

I'm currently on vacation, and my new Pre+ should be waiting for me when I get home. In the meantime I decided to create my meta-doctor to get ready for the swap.

Let me just say that if you're using Windows 7, then Cygwin is the way to go... I know nothing about Linux, but I was able to follow the directions which are very straight forward. The whole process was fairly easy.

Can't wait to make my new Sprint Pre+!!

I am having some trouble with step 2. What exactly should I be doing at this point? How do I run the command?

Using Cygwin? Follow step 1 of the Linux instructions here: Application:MetaDoctor - WebOS Internals

That was where I got stuck for a bit, after that it was smooth sailing.
