    I just got a german O2 GSM pre (I'm a complete n00b).

I've used meta-doctor to reflash with bypass first-use etc. so I can create a profile over wifi (don't have a data plan). I've also enabled dev mode.
In order for webos doctor to see my phone I had to manually install novacom (v1.0.55 linux) and start the phone holding the volume up button.
Flashing failed verfication and the phone was stuck (had to remove the battery), but after that boot up fine and I could create a profile and everything.

Now, I can't manage to install stuff using webos quick install. When I connect the usb cable I'm supposed to get a question an answer "Just Charge" but I never see such a question. Also webos quickinstall says "no device found". I definitely have the dev mode on (I even tried running the dev mode app)/

If I turn the phone off and on again with the volume button, webos quick install hangs when I try to select something from the menu.

    novacomd output below.

    Please help! Thanks in advance

OK, I tried on windows - and i get the "just charge" and webos quick install seems to be working.
Is this a windows thing, or maybe I have a problem with my linux/novacom?

My understanding is that it will only ask you "Just Charge" "USB Mode" "Media Sync" if the computer identifies as, well, a computer.

If your drivers have been installed badly or there is a compatibility problem with your linux install/distrib then that would explain it. There's certainly no way you'd be able to connect via WebOS Quick Install in this scenario.

I can't help you get it working in Linux, but at least you can rest assured that it's a Linux problem and not a problem with your phone

    Thanks. That makes sense.

    I found the solution: ww.radicand.org/blog/orz/2010/2/13/linux-hates-my-palm-pre/

I probably shouldn't have activate the usbnet option in meta doctor without knowing what it is.
