Every time I try to type the word 'its' webOS inserts and apostrophe in there. How the heck to I tell this thing I want a possessive pronoun not a contraction for it is??

immediately after it corrects it, hit backspace once and it will undo the correction.

Press the backspace key after it's "corrected" to "it's".

just hit the backspace button after it adds it

I know that I'm going to regret asking this, but isn't "it's" equivalent to both "it is" and "belonging to it". Or is there some other meaning for "its"

The dog wants its bone. Not the dog wants it is bone.

I think the confusion comes because dogs is plural, vs the dog's bone is possesive.

When you have something like this the contraction get the apostrophe and the possessive does not.

it follows the same pattern as he and she

    Possesives :
    he - his
    she - hers
    it - its

    Contraction of "... is"
    he - he's
    she - she's
    it - it's

    Perfectly consistent.
