    hey,

the rules which character combination is a emoticon is written in the file '/etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt'.
If you want to get rid of it you can use 'WebOS Quick Install' - in the menu tools you open 'Linux Commandline'.
    "cp /etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt /etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt.bak"
    "rm /etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt"

The first line creates a copy of the dictionary (in case you want to have some smileys later) and the second removes the file. After a restart you will not see any emoticons anymore.

    "mv /etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt /etc/palm/emoticon-base-dictionary.txt.bak"
works too - this way you only have one command.

In any case the command of course without " "...
