what would happen if the buffer time was changed to a higher number like...30 or more?is it possible
  2.    #422
So far it looks like most people are having positive results. This may also cause your phone to heat up since it's using more power/usage on the radios.

I tried it. I went up to 30 then to 60 and both of them didn't work very well at all. Speeds around 40k to 60k. it sucked so I put it back to 20. It working again. The reason I tried this is because I didn't see any real results from going from 7 to 20 so I tried that.

    no real results here...

Went through the steps and it didn't seem to have any result.

Ran the cache increase to 20, and that was confirmed at locked.

I then changed the HA's to my locals.

Was at about 360k before, which sucks.

It seems to have gotten worse. Some runs as low as 61k, but one came in at 450k

I think sprint's speeds in hollywood are just crap.

It worked for me but I noticed that my phone was taking longer to ring and when it did finally ring I had already missed the first second or to of the conversation. I since have had my Pre replaced because of a unrelated issue, but I did notice a speed increase.

Looking at the changes they are the same as the changes in the first post just different names.

    7) When you exit this menu, reset your Palm Pre/Pixi.

    9) Repeat steps 1 & 2 and verify the MMG IP is 0.0.0.0 and MMG Port is 0

    whts a palm pre??

    NOT "HP webOS"!!!

So I've finally had the time to do this on my Meta-Doctored Sprint Pre (Minus) running webOS 2.1

Definitely increased my data speeds. Everything loads faster and I even tethered the phone to my computer and ran speed tests.

Confirmed to work with webOS 2.1

    eeehh...how did you:

    6) Upon powerup, go to the Phone App, go to Preferences, and press Update Network Settings.

    ?

I also did the upgrade to 2.1 on Pre- ...but no buttons to do this..

Well you don't actually need to Update Network Settings. It's just a recommendation to have the phone force the new changes.

It will eventually update itself even if you don't have the button in webOS 2.1.

Phone also updates PRL automatically. You just won't be able to manually update PRL & Update Network Settings.

Yeah I noticed when I reset the phone the buffer was still at 20...

    Thanks!

I'm only looking for performance in speed of the web so will part 1 of the 3 be good enough or do I have to do all 3?
  16. #436
did part 1 only on my 2.1.0 Vzw Pre+. See about 25% faster on 3G than my wife identical phone when running speed test side by side via DSLReports Home : Broadband ISP Reviews News Tools and Forums

I have had these settings changed for a while now, but I still get the same data speeds regardless of whether I have this trick activated or not. I'm not even completely sure if this trick works at all. So you might not be getting any better data speeds, because the trick may not work in the first place. I wonder if these changed settings are to blame for my slow FreeTether transfer speeds?
