yeah, ran a speed test (several) and my results are horrendous!! average speed of 297kbps, not impressed at all by this tweak. could very well just be my location, did have one test come in at 872kbps, sooo... I really dont know.

I was able to increase my download speed on verizon from 400 Kbs to 1300 Kbs by making a small change. Touch phone icon, click on verizon wireless in the top left corner, click preferences and then enable data roaming. Consistently near 1000 Kbs instead of 200 to 400 Kbs.

I went to sprint.com and clicked the chat icon. The agent asked me what I needed and I explained i am going to hard reset my phone and it is asking for the MSL code and he said " you are aware it will erase all your data on your pre"? I said of course and without another word, he gave it to me. I did not perform the faster internet trick, but i did try the one to increase the sprint tv. it seemed a bit faster, but the voices did not match the people talking ( I was using the ESPN TV channel and PTI was on) So i just changed it back. i did not get a chance to look at a you tube video. I might try it again later. P.S. very impt... after you enter your code... and go to multimedia... please type down and save what the original setting are before you make changes... so you can change it back without a problem.

Im leaving my phone as is,the only two thing added is preware and 800mhz kernel ipk patch. check my speed with mobilespeed.com and i got 1052.84 and sprint original speed is 876.68 i think. so sprint as the fastest network speed right, according to the chart.

The EASY way to To Get Your MSL

Remove your MicroSD card if you have one, then plug in your phone via USB, then open up Device Manager to get your com port.

Next, Download UNLOCKER and open it up...

Go to SETUP and change the port to the one listed in Device Manager.

Go back to the Main tab, and then click Read All in the top menu. Your MSL will appear in the Sec. Code box.

Here is the link for the directions above (with pictures) and and where you can also download UNLOCKER.

well everytime I do this with all the proper instruction it only seems to make small speed differences for the better:
    (using mobilespeedtest.org w/ mutliple tests)
    Reg/Stock Settings:1st 1.43 mbps, 183.14 kb/s -2nd 1.40 mbps, 179.38 kb/s
    AfterBufferSizeMod:1st 1.66 mbps, 212.14 kb/s -2nd 1.84 mbps, 235.44 kb/s -3rd 1.63 mbps...
    AfterHomeAgent:1st 1.01 mbps, 129.36 kb/s -2nd 1.67 mbps, 214 kb/s -3rd 2.12 mbps, 270.86 kb/s
    AfterPort/MMG:1st 1.76 mbps, 225.63 kb/s -2nd 1.33 mbps, 170.51 kb/s -3rd 1.67 mbps, 214.39 kb/s
    AfterSlotIndex:1st 1.43 mbps, 182.73 kb/s * -2nd 1.01 mbps, 129.79 kb/s * -3rd 1.62 mbps, 207.29 kb/s
[these results aren't for each individual mod but with each one adding onto the others]
my results are very weird cause they can seem like they've inproved & than seem like they gotten alot worse

You don't have to keep bumping your thread. We already support you, and new users will continue to find this thread. If you need to bump it, then do it every few weeks. What you should do is post this trick on a lot of other sites, forums, ect; so that it can be more found more easily during a Google search. You can even post a screen shot of the trick and post that with Google Images. That way even more people get to find this trick helpful.

By the way, where did you learn about this trick?

I just tried this with all combinations, and it made no difference in the average speed...

Btw, where is the info for the 800Mhz Kernel Patch ? Is it available thru Preware ?

    Thanks!!

i am on verizon, and in preferences there is no mention of data roaming, enable or otherwise

I was in dire need for some EVDO speed increases, so I thought I'd try this out. Here are my results:

    Testing from Pre:

    [Before]

    Mobilespeedtest.com:

    Your speed: 421.053 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.261 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 1.9 seconds

    Your speed: 575.54 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.279 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 1.39 seconds

    Your speed: 851.064 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.303 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 0.94 seconds

    [After]

    Your speed: 769.231 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.319 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 1.04 seconds

    Your speed: 346.32 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.314 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 2.31 seconds

    Your speed: 583.942 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.357 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 1.37 seconds

From this test you can see that I averaged about the same speeds, even less than before in some cases. However, I'm willing to let that go based on just timing.

From Computer when Tethering w/ Mobile Hotspot (Sprint Pre):

    [Before]

    Mobilespeedtest.com:

    Your speed: 67.227 Kbps
    Your latency: 1.745 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 11.9 seconds

    Your speed: 185.185 Kbps
    Your latency: 1.207 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 4.32 seconds

    Your speed: 232.558 Kbps
    Your latency: 1.84 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 3.44 seconds

    [After]

    Your speed: 229.885 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.784 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 3.48 seconds

    Your speed: 191.388 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.548 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 4.18 seconds

    Your speed: 167.364 Kbps
    Your latency: 0.521 seconds
Transferred 100 KB in 4.78 seconds

Again, nothing seems to have changed significantly. Some speed increase, and I'm willing to let go my initial test which took 11 seconds to transfer 100 KB because of timing and it was the first test. Even then, nothing stunning other than decreasing my latency by half.

    Speedtest.net:

    [Before]

    Download: 0.57
    Upload: 0.22
    Ping: 392

    Download: 0.80
    Upload: 0.25
    Ping: 289

    Download: 0.96
    Upload: 0.16
    Ping: 305

    [After]

    Download: 0.77
    Upload: 0.25
    Ping: 155

    Download: 0.81
    Upload: 0.03
    Ping: 175

    Download: 0.71
    Upload: 0.07
    Ping: 162

Once again, the results aren't spectacular. It decreased my ping substantially which I like, but has little observable results outside of tethering to an Xbox and trying to play online. My upload speeds also decreased, though my download remained roughly the same.

    Pingtest.net:

    [Before]

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 236
    Jitter: 176

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 544
    Jitter: 506

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 828
    Jitter: 909

    [After]

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 286
    Jitter: 264

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 188
    Jitter: 113

    Packet Loss: 0%
    Ping: 146
    Jitter: 28

This test shows that my ping really has increased for the better (lower ping and jitter are better if anyone doesn't know). The jitter also decreased, but once again, unless I'm playing some kind of online game, such as over a tethered Xbox, these results aren't very noticeable to the average web surfer.

So, after doing the "hack" I have found little success in terms of increasing my speed, though time may show differing. Perhaps this will make for a more stable and constant reliable EVDO than before. Thanks for the guide, and I hope my results help other people as well.

[Note: all speed tests were taken one after another to achieve maximum consistency]

Is anyone else getting odd test results from Bandwidth Speed ? Ever since I changed the data settings, I will get speed ratings up to the T1 and even T2 time. This wasn't happening before I changed the settings, but now it is happen daily. Are T1 and T2 data speeds even possible with a Sprint Palm Pre? Or is the web site just having a tough time testing my Pre's data seeds. I can't imagine those data speed results as being correct.

UPDATE: I just tested the speed again and this time they are off the chart. What is happening here?
