***? And it seems that I'm the only one experiencing this. There will probably have to be another quickie update released to fix this issue because I HATE having to restart my phone everytime I want to watch a video I recorded...
I have the same issue. I recorded a 20-second video to have the pre say its 8 seconds. Plus, it won't play at all! It sits on the load screen (circle going round-n-round-n-round-n-round...) and nothing happens. I swiped out of it, deleted the video to try again, and now my photo app won't work at all! All I see is gray!

There is no way the software update could have killed your phone. It may have made the software unusable, but the hardware is still perfectly operational. Have you tried using webOS Doctor to "reformat & reinstall" webOS 1.4?

I had to do it last night on my phone and it worked perfectly. Personally, I think webOS 1.4 is a pile of junk, but at least I got my phone working. I am thinking of rolling back to 1.3.5.1, however.

    All the best,

    Rob

First off, thanks to all for posting SO MUCH great info. Second, my apologies if what I am about to ask has been answered. I have been searching endlessly for the answer to the following and I simply haven't spotted it yet amidst all this information.

MY CHALLENGE: My Pre updated to 1.4 overnight on its own. Had Preware installed with about 50 patches and a theme. Attempted the "Update All" this morning and I get the "error updating: see ipkg log" message. I get this when I attempt to add new patches, remove old ones, update existing, etc. I have rebooted MANY times.

I finally got a fresh and clean Preware and Package Manager Service installed via WebOSQuickInstall. So, I am good there. All this said, please help me figure out getting patches etc back in order.

    Thank you.

Has anyone else had a problem with the "Show Updates" in the Update icon? My 1.4 downloaded fine on my Sprint service phone. The only bug I see is that it continues to say I have updates but there is no evidence. From past notes here on the Forum, you should gesture back and then go forward again. This would normally show the "Update All". It has been over a day and I continue to get no results.

I have Preware and a few apps loaded. I had deleted all Patches before 1.4 arrived jut to make sure I had no problems. Any thoughts?

Am i the only one that cant load a webpage after the update? I click on a bookmark and i tried to manually enter an address to no avail. When i try it flickers like its about to load then the url bar looks sorta depressed with the arrow like when you're about to type in it.

There are 2 things that you can try:

    1) Open the app catalog, click on the shopping bag and look for any app that needs updated, at the bottom there may be an update all button.

    2) If that doesn't work, the problem is usually caused by an app that you previously had on your phone and then removed. That particular app gets updated and your phone still thinks you have it installed so you get the "update available" message.

The only way to fix it is to try and recall which app you recently removed, and then re-install it. You can then delete it pressing the orange button/tap app method.

wow I'm having the exact same problem shoot an record a vid and the **** is stuck loading what gives I hope this is a fix for 1.4.1 or something what's the point of video recording if it's not functional I hope palm knows about this that is probably why this update was delayed they should have left it like that until ALL of the wrinkles are ironed out.You can't release a huge update like this to the masses and have such a huge bug in the MAIN Features.

Apple is smart in doing what they do regardless of how cool it is to have an open OS. It's not for their intended buyer.

And what the hell is it with the screen lock on the charger now??? The major complaint after the last update was that it would turn off and lock while on the charger. Now, it locks but won't turn off, even manually so the screen while on a TS stays on. ***??
Speak for yourself. My Pre is homebrewed and patched and my update went off without a hitch, including the update of my patches. I think that there are many of us who had the same experience. I'm loving 1.4.

Do you have the multi-mod patch installed? If so, remove it.

I'm a newb too, but here's my best guess. First command line lists open cards and identifies memory usage. I had webos-patches eating about 3gb of memory on the phone (I checked device info before and had 4.3gb free, and 7gb after the fix). The second command line entry terminates the activity. I'd imagine most that are getting the critical memory issue, were doing the same thing I was last night (trying to get into PreWare) and after multiple freeze ups in the download stage gave up and turned the app off. Best I can guess is that PreWare functions didn't initiate or close properly and opening PreWare again re-initiated the process in some kind of open loop. I performed the fix and PreWare loaded very quickly and seems to be working fine.

I was having the typical problems with patches and Preware yesterday, and decided it was just easier to remove the patches and reinstall. Problem is I think I've got one in limbo. I had the add page patch for the launcher installed, and removed it with the others. After removing add page app, I still had the 4 pages that I'd had set up, but the option in the tab has disappeared. When I review installed patches in PreWare it's not there, but it also isn't showing up as an available patch on PreWare (like installed apps and patches do).

So i all of a sudden cannot use my Web Browser at all. after i downloaded the update i tired it once and it worked, then i forgot about it as i was working StormFest in Pittsburgh, after that however i came back and tried to go to a few sites (including the standard, google) with now luck. the address bar will change like it loading, flash, and then nothing changes, im just stuck at the bookmarks page. If i try to type an address into the Uni search bar, and click go, i get simply a white page, it wont do anything at all. anyone else having this problem??

The app store also tells me I need to delete some programs or files to make room for programs that I try to install. Programs that were already obtained thru the app store and installed updated and running fine until 1.4 then they were gone.

I was having the first problem, and the second problem has just started... I've doctored the phone to 1.3.5 a couple of times, and am downloading the 1.4 doctor now -- hopefully that solves the problems. I'm not impressed with 1.4 so far on my Sprint Pre.
