Hey, all. I was wondering if anyone was having any success using the Mobile Hotspot app to connect to Xbox Live using security. I can get everything to work fine if I use an open network, but as soon as I turn WPA2 on, the Xbox just won't connect. It recognizes that it's a WPA2 connection, I put the correct passphrase in, but it just refuses to connect. But it's fine if I leave the network open. I doubt anyone else will actually try to connect to my network. They probably wouldn't even be able to, since I imagine the range on the Pre Plus is pretty limited. But I just want to check to see if anyone has gotten this working. It works fine on the PS3 and laptop in the house, so I'm not sure why it won't work with the Xbox.

    Thanks!

    1. Install freetether & mobile hot spot

    2. Connect your PC/Mac to mobile hot spot

    3. Go to you PC/Mac's network settings & write down: Subnet Mask, Router/Gateway & DNS

    4. On Xbox, PS3, etc go to network settings & "MANUALLY" set up your wifi connection.

    A. In IP Address put exactly what your PC/Mac's wifi is using except add 1 to the last digit, so if its a .1 make it .2 on your PS3, Xbox, etc.

    B. Then input DNS, Gateway/Router & Subnet Mask EXACTLY how you wrote it down.

    Enjoy!
yo i did all that the only good thing know it does get a ip but no internet connection can you help

I'm having trouble with this method as well. I'm using a windows 7 computer to find all the info and when I get all the numbers I follow the instructions to a T. But when I do the connection test it gets to the psn status then fails. Guessing that it may be my recption that I have in my home that it preventing this from continuing??

Mine also kept failing the internet connection test after following the steps above, but I decided to try the playstation store anyways and I managed to download an update. Make sure you try the ps3 network after the connection test fails just to be sure.

I did it once before at work, but it's just too much of a pain. Not to mention I have to reenter my long *** home network key everytime too...

not really I have done it for years and never that big of a deal. Now if you can deal with a few hundred ping it's all good.

I feel like it would be pretty laggy as well as data intensive...I'd expect to get a warning from verizon if you go to high over the data cap

dude... forget about it... trying to play a game over xbox live with a 3g connection? or really just anything you can do over xbox live...

not worth the hassle... and, you would hit your data cap in no time flat.

SOOOOOO... Sprint doesnt allow tethering for the pre... therefore huge spikes in your data usage for extended periods of time would draw unwanted and unpleasant attention...

What he said, plus let's try and not ruin unlimited data for Sprint users that actually have a real internet connection as well. I have never used Tethering or MHS, and even with using some wifi at home and work, I can easily crack 3 gigs on my line alone in a month.
