Regarding the steps to show call duration, here's the page I used:

    pre dev wiki: Hidden Features

If you aren't familiar with the linux command line interface, I really don't recommend making the changes. If you want to give it a shot, I'd go to the PreDev Wiki and try rooting your pre. If you're successful at that, I'd be glad to help walk you through some other easy changes. I've got a pretty busy weekend, but the work week should be slower for me.

Yes. Updated to 1.0.3 yesterday within an hour of it being announced. Had yet another dead pre/soft reset late this morning.

I upgraded to 1.0.3 yesterday. Today mine did the Logged Out of Profile thing and all settings were lost. Had to create a new profile, and import all my contacts and email settings.

This is the first time it has happened to me.

Sounds like I need to call Palm and report the problem?

David, why did you have to create a new profile? Did your original no longer work? I was always able to log back into my profile (except the very last time I described above). I only created a new one at the suggestion of Palm to see if that would prevent further restarts.

I definitely think calling Palm is wise. You may not get a new device right away, but at least they can document what happened and troubleshoot. If it continues, I can't imagine you not getting a new one.

Called Sprint, they said there are new phones in the stores that won't have this problem and that I should take mine in and have it replaced. (45 minutes on the phone, first talk to level 1 support, then level 2, then level 3 and now you can get it replaced.) Remember to always be nice with the levels 1 and 2 or you never get to level 3.

My phone did this a few times since I got it on 6/6 and did it twice after upgrading on Friday to 1.0.3. I called Sprint on Friday and they said that they would call me back today to check if upgrade helped. So are we saying that this is a hardware issue and its not getting fixed with software? If so I'll make sure I push for a new phone when they call back.

In my case, and it seems a few others, it is something hardware related, at least how that piece of hardware is relating to the software!

BTW, dld121, you are very wise.

If you haven't already, make sure to call Palm at the number listed earlier in this thread. I called Sprint customer service and was told that I needed to replace the hardware (helpful, I know), then I got put on a one-to-two week waiting list at a local Sprint store. I called Palm on Thursday, and I was told that I would be contacted by a specialist within 48 hours. Said specialist called today, asked a few questions, and set me up with a replacement model.

Forget Sprint in this process. Palm obviously knows that there is an issue with the hardware, and they evidently have hardware to send out whereas Sprint doesn't.

I think my problem is similar to yours. Several times I've had the black screen, and I hit the power button. Sometimes it powers, sometimes it doesn't. A week ago I saw a big Question Mark on the screen, and the only way to clear it was to shut it off and take out the battery and reseat it.

Today, pulled the phone out of my pocket, and it was dead. Plugged it into USB, and the wall. Neither worked. Reseated battery again, and it finally powered. BTW, the charge was 73%, so it wasn't a dead battery.

Called Palm twice, they're instructing me to run WebOS Doctor. It wasn't working (maybe because I'm running Windows 7). I need to try it on my Vista machine. Can't imagine this will help anything. Sounds like it's hardware.

I just received my replacement Pre--took all of one day to get to me. Again, go directly through Palm with this issue.

I received my replacement on Monday morning, and I haven't had any issues since. I'm hoping it stays that way!

FYI - Another random soft reset yesterday (Wed) afternoon. Made it approximately 100 hours with no problems--a record. I'm making a note here for my records as much as any reason. And, FWIW, I'm still holding the (apparently) new-in-box Pre that arrived from Palm for a few more days. If the random resets continue, I'm keeping the new one.

So is ANYONE having soft reset issues? How many? How often?

my random restart required was quite frequent in the beginning-- and i did all the suggested things the palm phone support told me.lately it was only once a day, very random and for the past two days no problem.

when i went to backup that triggered it a few days back and today feeling confident i tried to install a new app and boom-- that was it.

i don't really want a new phone as it hasn't seemed to always help others, plus the slow down in restarts had made me optimistic. i just hate the time it takes to sign back in and restore a bunch of settings that don't get restored or saved...

feeling frustrated at the time i spend reading about this issue and dwelling on it...

I still have it at least once a day although it skipped one or two but then made up for it the next day. I haven't exchanged ithe phone as I'm hoping it will rectify itself.
I just wasted another bunch of time restoring what this morning's overnight log-out lost...

If your "reset" is causing you to be logged out of your Palm Profile and requiring you to restore certain things, this sounds like a hard reset that you are experiencing. Per my posts above, my original device was logging me out of my profile and resulting in a hard reset. However, my current device, a reconditioned Pre from Sprint, is having regular SOFT resets--usually takes <1 minute to complete and DOES NOT change any configurations or result in any data loss.

If you are experiencing the first problem, redboat29--the hard reset/logged out of Palm Profile issue--call Palm Support immediately (free for first 30 days after purchase) for a new device, as yours is almost certainly faulty.

Well, after several more random soft resets I finally put my BRAND NEW Pre (direct from Palm; current unit was a recon from Sprint) into service last Thursday at 3:21 p.m. I'm happy to report that I've now made it 113 hours with no resets or problems of any kind. Since activating the new unit I have downloaded and used several apps and used the native apps extensively. So, I'm starting my Monday--and the anniversary of my original Pre purchase--with a smile on my face!

BTW, one thing I want to note is that when I "restored" my new device with the info that was backed up using the Pre Backup app, I noticed that two of my downloaded apps were restored but two others were not. I found this particularly strange since I thought the Backup app does not backup/restore downloaded apps.

Anyway, as I said, after 30 days with my Pres, I finally feel happy. Now if only Palm would send an OTA update with all the features I'm still missing from my Treo...

I just experienced this issue for the first time yesterday. I was in a "you must reset your phone" loop and had to WebOS Doctor it to get out. When I reloaded and restarted the phone I chose to use a different profile just in case. So far, the problem hasn't repeated and I'm hoping it was a one-time thing and won't be an ongoing problem like many of you had. I've had a Pre since the first day, but this is a recent exchange device that I just got last week. Warranty date is June 20.

Well, I am about 16 hours away from a full 14 days since I put my new (from Palm) Pre into service. So far she's been flawless. Therefore, I plan to ship my (second) defective unit back to Palm tomorrow (first unit was exchanged at Sprint store for refurb unit which ended up having some issues).

Thanks again to everyone who attempted to help...or at least commiserated with me! Let's hope I won''t be back on this thread again (except maybe to help someone else).
