I'm going to say it's possibly a battery issue. If I have it plugged into the USB port, it's not doing it so far even with pretty hard bangs.

Edit nm, did it again eventually. Blah

MMM Maybe its just a case of the battery being too loose in its compartment..

Maybe you could use a trick from back in the Comodore 64 era (anybody remember those? ) and stick a piece of paper in the compartment to make it more snug..
as a temp fix off course... take it back to get fixed properly.. like somebody already reported..

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Has anybody tried it with the unit plugged into the wall and see if it still crashes? I would try that if I was near my charger.

I'm going to try that and report back.

Just took a really small strip of paper and rolled it up a couple times and wedged it in at the top of the battery where the pull tab is to eject the battery. So now the battery is more firmly positioned on the 3 power contacts.

I opened and closed the slider about 20-30 times with varying degrees of force and orientations and CANNOT get it to crash.

Any updates on this? Has it been confirmed that the issue is a loose battery causing the shut downs?

That seems like such a ghetto solution tikes but if it actually solves the problem... What has me intrigued is the fact that mine started doing it this morning with me treating the phone any differently.

I'm also at home and had it on the touchstone and it wasn't resetting... But then I started opening bunch of apps and such and I guess I was discharging faster then I was charging and it froze so now I am seeing if it crashes while directly plugged in... So far not but have to test more. Can't test and post cuz I'm using the pre lol.

I tried Tikerz idea of paper around the battery... Seems to be stable now. I may have knocked the power cord out in my last post when I was slamming it around. This is quite worrisome, since it's probably endemic to the entire run and may crop up on any phone sooner or later. I'll leave it like this and see how it goes for now.

The only way to know if a replacement is any good is to bang it around before you accept it anyway at this point. I might do a replacement at Radio Shack when there are more out there before the 30 days is up I guess. I can tolerate this workaround, and perhaps they'll redesign the battery itself (Maybe there are slight variations in battery sizes too).

I am amazed at how horrible the quality control is...phone crashed twice on me...

I know, but then I thought how many times do we have to take the back off and go in there?

That could be true. A slightly bigger battery would make for a more snug fit which would eliminate this problem.

Please let us know if forcing a more "snug fit" with that workaround resolves the problem...I hope Palm is getting all kinds of people to fix these problems!

Mine was very sensitive to impact before the paper fix. I've banged on it for 5 minutes now, no problems yet. I'd say it's certainly worth a try now.

This depends on how much battery life I will end up getting in the end and if I will have to carry around an extra battery. Would be a pain in the *** to have to deal with the paper if I have to have an extra battery.

I hear ya. In the end it's just a workaround but I'm satisfied for now. No crashes yet.

Now if only you guys could figure out a way to get symbols to work in text fields within a webpage, I'd be all set

I've decided I'm headin to the sprint store right now... Hopefully a new battery will solve it... If not then I suppose I will have to ghettofy the phone not that anybody looking at the phone will be able to tell.

One thing that might help, I used a tiny bit of scotch tape and folded a tiny bit of paper in 2 and stuck it to the back of the battery puller. That way it won't fall out if you gotta change the battery. It doesn't take very much paper at all.

glad to hear my suggestion worked

BTW I prefer to call it a mcGuyver sollution instead of a Ghetto one

My next trick is how you can get flash working, with just some ducttape, a swiss army knive and 2 broken matches
