Change Hotmail Exchange Calendar Sync Behavior

I have my calendar through Hotmail, setup as exchange, and it works 1000 times better than Google. Since I've had it setup the way it syncs is annoying, when I add, delete or update a calendar event, the phone syncs the event, locking up the calendar for 30-60 seconds. Any patches, settings or tricks to change how this works? I enjoy the immediate sync, but would rather not have the lockup.
