Default Contacts silently vanishing from Pre

I'm mystified at this point.

I have a contact, who is in both my Google contacts AND my Facebook contacts. Has been since before I got my Pre. When I got my Pre, she went into it as two contacts. I linked them together. All was good for months.

Today, I went to call her - and she wasn't in my phone! ***?

I get home, and check - yes, she's still in my Facebook, and she's still in my Google contacts. Yet she doesn't show up in my Pre anymore. I told my Pre to re-sync, no dice.

My Google contacts shows I have 588 contacts. My Pre shows that when I log into Google, I have 581 contacts. Where are the 7 missing contacts? How do I force the contacts that are in my Google and Facebook, that used to be in my Pre, to go back into my Pre???

My Pre also shows that I have two contacts in my Palm profile. My primary profile has always been Google, so how did those contacts get into my Palm profile? How do I identify which two they are?

Where are my contacts going?

I've got over a thousand contacts, I'd rather not have to go through them all one by one and click Edit on them, just to find out which ones are Palm contacts!

Chances are the two Palm Profile contacts on your phone are:

Sprint Account Information *4
Sprint Customer Care *2

You should check those first.

What happens when you do a universal search?

100% correct, those were the two accounts.

They still don't show up. It's like they no longer exist at all. I'm removing and re-adding the accounts now (knowing I'll have to link all the duplicates all over again) to hopefully fix the problem.

Well after re-adding the accounts, all the contacts have reappeared - all 588 Google contacts are there. I'll keep an eye for vanishing contacts in the future.

Just wanted to say that I've had a contact or two vanish on mine as well. I removed and re-added my accounts and that fixed it.

I've had my sister and brother-in-law combined into a single contact and I had to unlink them. That maybe what happened if you have contacts with similar names or phone numbers. I'm not sure exactly how the Synergy algorithm works, but it's not perfect.

Not the case for me. The contacts were gone, not just linked elsewhere.

Well, yes. An error message wouldn't be unheard of.

i only started having contacts vanish when i switched from using hosted exchange to using google apps premier. never lost a contact with exchange, lost several when i switched to google (same symptoms as the OP). possibly coincidental.
