Need to roll back to 1.1 or switch back to my Palm 800. Leaving on business starting Saturday. Can't be without my email and contacts.

How soon will Palm fix this?

Mine's been working fine. In fact, it's working better now that they fixed invitation acceptances.

There is a well-known fix for this. If you can't get your email provider to make a few simple changes in the EAS policy, then maybe you should find a new provider.

We are webhosted, and there are two of us at the company using the pre - so perhaps we can get our provider to fix this.

We are a small company and our IT resources are dedicated to customer concerns. The phone is just supposed to work. Not sure we want to change the provider for the whole company when only two of us are using the pre.

Think I'll switch back to the 800 tomorrow and return to the pre when it is fixed.

    Thanks

I would say that it does work - quite well - if the Exchange server EAS policy is configured correctly. I will say that Palm should have published guidelines for EAS configuration with the drop of the 1.2 bits.

Since my email provider is my company's IT department, should I quit?

Um, no. If this is indeed the problem, I say that it is shoddy and lazy programming on the part of Palm. There is no way in hell that any client is supposed to DEMAND that there be specific settings on a server in order for the client to connect.

The server is in charge. Not the client. The client is merely supposed to interpret the policy and act on it, not tell the server "You need to have settings X, Y, and Z or I won't talk to you." That's bull.

It may be a work-around for those that have access to those settings, but it is NOT a SOLUTION to the problem. Palm needs to fix their code so that it dynamically can work with WHATEVER the policy settings are on the server. If the policy is ON, then honor the settings. If the policy is OFF, then IGNORE the underlying settings. It's that simple. But someone got lazy and hard-coded it. That's unacceptable.

A+ to Insp Gadget. Nail on the head!!!! You think anyone would use iPhones or WinMo phones if they required passwords PINs to be off? Some IT departments want that type of security, especially if they deal with sensitive data.

Well said, rlopin. In what magical world does an IT department for a large company let users call up and just request changes to the server settings?

Looks like Palm is truly working on a client-side fix for this issue.

From the Palm support forum, Anachronistic writes:

Quick update. For those that have read this thread in its entirety, we know what's causing this and are working as quickly as possible to get a update that addresses this issue done and available. We are also working on getting some support pages ready which will outline the issue, including what can be done as outlined by Hardbeatz here: Re: Getting contacts back, temporarily??? - Synergy (webOS) - Palm Support Community I will add links to these pages in this thread as soon as they are available.

Also, as some have noticed, restoring webOS 1.1 also "fixes" the issue, and we are planning on providing a link to download the WebOS Doctor which will restore your phone to update 1.1 for those that can't implement the security policy changes or wait until the patch which addresses this is available.I will also add the link to this page, when it is available.

All thru this ordeal I have been calm and patient... this ended about an hour ago. Here is verbaige and a link of a post I placed at the Palm support site:
    ######################################

webOS 1.2 and Exchange - Synergy (webOS) - Palm Support Community

I am now ****ed. I received a call from a Palm support desk person to schedule a call with a tech specialist about my problem. I was excited as possibly a workaround or solution was forthcoming.

However, the nice tech specialist did nothing but listen to my problem, reiterate that the fix was to make the service side changes, and I could try finding WebOS Doctor 1.1 somewhere on the web (but not thru Palm cuz they withdrew the link!!), and, the fact of the matter is some users Exchange synch does not work with 3rd party hosted MSX accounts under the currently supported OS. Period.

At this point I let loose... nothing about understanding how we felt about lost functionality, etc, and nothing about working hard to help their customers get their functionality restored. Oh, he did offer me an 'effective alternative' (note, his exact words) was to use OWA on the Pre. No reassurance that a solution is being worked on for their customers.

I did see where one of the admins has stated there will be a link to rollback the update. I am thankful for that.

However, there is no reason why there is this big a disconnect between the various support groups. This leads to nothing but increased frustration with us - the people who pay their salaries (I also own Palm stock). Soon after Palm knew there was a problem with an important function of their device, and one that is critical to a number of their customers, there should have been some coordinated communication recognizing this and letting us know something was forthcoming. They know our email addresses, and a number of us either chat or visit this site. Heck, there should have been a warning message posted on their site, and even on users devices who still have not upgraded to 1.2.

I have been in IT support for 15 years, managing the delivery of front line customer support and this level of disconnected service is absurd.

I have been a very long time Sprint customer, paying them lots of money each month. I stood in line for a long time to get my device, and have proudly bragged about it's functionality. However, I am getting to the place where as soon as I find another device that will support multiple MSX accounts I'm gone.

Again, this is absurd. Absurd that there has not been clear and effective communications about the problem, and absurd that the problem has progressed as long as it has.

If I decide to stay with Sprint & Palm, I will be complaining to C levels at both Sprint and Palm, and will write the board of each company. If I bail, then I won't waste my time with them.

One of the Palm support website admins posted a message that THEY were going to be posting a link to rollback to 1.1. Well, apparently they decided against it and this admin, @Anachronistic, edited out the wording regarding the link.

    Absurd.

I will be phoning Sprint Retention Services tonight and giving them an earful about this problem.

Until we get straight answers I will keep escalating...

We are wasting our time here, Palm doesn't care about us the users. All they care about is how their stock prices are doing. I wish we could get some major press so palm actually felt the effects of their actions...

Well, I had to revert to 1.1. I need my Exchange functionality this weekend and I doubt Palm will have anything ready before next week.

At least Palm acknowledges the problem and they are working on a client-side update/fix. The only question now is when it will be released.
