I am familar with the "security through obscurity" arguement. However, we aren't talking about the encryption algorithm here. Just a wish to avoid Microsoft products where possible due to a large number of people who like to hack them.

@ 1:40 in this video seems to confirm what we've guessed about media sync.

Which was what? (I just watched it.)
    * Stuck patches? Partial erase worked for me.
    * Stuck virtual keyboard? Partial erase AND folder deletion worked for me.

That the device conforms to the mass storage standard when plugged in - so the computer treats it as a flash drive. This means that you can

    a) drag and drop files such as music and pictures

    b) Sync to common media players such as wmp11

    c) set up common sync software (such as allway sync) to perform manual or automatic sync of the files on the device.

But likely not PIM and app data...

That's the big unknown - my windows mobile device is set to act as mass storage when plugged in - I can get to the apps and their data but not the PIM (or at least I don't think I can).

Wow! I just read through all of these posts, and I am glad to see that there are others that have concerns with the no desktop issue. Since I am on Verizon, I have time to see how this all pans out.

Thanks for keeping me up to date.
