This sounds like it's another critical patch that most webOS users will require. Anyone using gmail needs this right?

Do we have a sticky thread of must-haves?

Thanks for working on this! I didn't even know i needed it!

Erased my original comment -- yes, this patch has two purposes - it fixes the sync for Google contacts, and also fixes the authentication process that has to happen whenever you add a Google account or change your login credentials. For that reason, it is needed for anyone using a Google account on their 2.x or 3.x device. My understanding is 1.x devices are not affected.

Thx alot Frantid and Grabber5.0 for this great community work. Not only making google services usable again but also having the syncing of our data more secure and a bit more hidden from the Five Eyes.

This should be manually added to the Preware patches by webosinternals as it is really an essential patch.

Thanks for taking this on, finding the root cause and fixing it, Matt. I would never have noticed the error myself.

To resolve any problem in Pre3 you need to install a terminal in your phone. I use Xterm.

Using vi you need to edit file:

    /usr/palm/services/com.palm.service.contacts.google/javascript/assistants/checkcredentialsassistant.jsjsjs

at line 81 repalce http with https so the line becomes

    query = new google.gdata.contacts.ContactQuery("https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/contacts/default/full");

    save and exit

    then edit file

    /usr/palm/services/com.palm.service.contacts.google/javascript/assistants/syncassistant.jsjsjs

and replace http by https at line 7 so the line becomes

    _feedUrl: "https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/contacts/default/full",

and at line 331 so the line becomes

    this.client.gdataService.getContactGroupFeed("https://www.google.com/m8/feeds/groups/default/full", future.callback(this, function (feedRoot) {

    save and exit..
    Now all sync run correctly.

Appreciate the detail, but there is no reason for most folks to go through all that when there is a patch available that will do it for you. Most people aren't going to want to edit their OS files, that's why we have patches. That is doing all of the manual work I did to create the patch in the first place. Also, that does not address the needed changes that were added last night for fixing the sync of changes made on-device.

Enable developer mode on your phone, download webOS Quick Install on your computer, connect your phone to your computer via USB, open webOS Quick Install, download the patch file from the first post of this thread, drag the patch file into webOS Quick Install, click Install

Thanks Alan I was just hunting down the guide. I wonder if a link to the guide should be standard in all patch threads, for people that stumble onto patch threads via Google and may not have installed homebrew apps or patches before?

FYI this guide is pretty comprehensive, but it really doesn't cover patches, particularly .patch files, now that the patch portal is down and new patches are mainly in the form of .patch attachments...: How to install homebrew apps on your TouchPad or webOS smartphone | webOS Nation

I think Derek should write an article and post it to the page... if he's still around and anyone still reads the front page that is.
Palm IIIc -> Sony CLIÉ T650C -> Sony TJ-37 -> Palm TX -> Palm Centro -> Palm Pre Bell -> Palm Pre Plus Bell/Verizon Hybrid -> HP Veer -> HP Pre 3 NA -> BlackBerry Classic -> BlackBerry Priv

    Is anyone working on a similar patch to the calendar JSJSJS $files$ ($which$ $appear$ $similar$ $to$ $the$ $contacts$ $one$)?

My guess is that Google, in light of locking everything down due to NSA spying, will make HTTPS required.

I use Gsync to sync outlook to gmail and it currently uses HTTPS do do it's work. Here is example of the beginning of the feed path from it:

As far as I can see, in the meantime the webOS Nations front page contains only links to the forums. Beside the ads.

It depends on how you hit it. The mobile site on my Pre2 starts with the articles.

Back to Preware to install AUSMT Scripts. Preware still couldn't see (any?) files in it's install browser, so back to Internalz and I've now successfully installed and am still syncing with Google. Yay!

I kind of thought there were already guides on this site and webOS-internals. It would be silly to duplicate, but perhaps some overview guide is needed. I'll look into a pivotCE article (with my colleagues). We will need to take care that it is simple, clear and comprehensive.

Perhaps a donation campaign for all the recent fixes is also due...

I hope this patch makes it to Preware - it is my preferred install method as I assume it's the only one that keeps a record which can be backed up, restored, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Preware doesn't support .patch files, only .ipk packages, so you only have two choices: Internalz Pro or WebOS Quick Install.

Regarding the guide.. I didn't mean we should write a new one, just link to one, but they both need some updating.

Oh. I'm sure this feature will be included in Preware 2.... ;-)

Yes, something brief with a set of links might be all that is required - if that. I think the webOS-Internals guide is fairly comprehensive as I recall...

It would be better to update the original guides if possible, but we could certainly look at that if necessary.

Yes, I think so, too. Checking my google calendars on the google website showed that phone created new events are in fact created and stored, but not shown on the phone itself. I'm afraid my Pre3 is crying for doctoring...
Tried a device erase, recreating databases and reloading apps - didn't help. I realized that the google calendars do not show at all without the UberCalendar patch. So here seems to be some kind of interference. Maybe I should have deleted the UberCalendar patch before installing the gsync patch. This should be a caveat. There were no problems before the google authentification swtich to https, or the gsync patch installation, respectively.

Will do doctoring on the weekend.
