I just ran into a problem installing this patch and figured it out at least for me. After a couple of trips to the Doctor today (my Pre3 does not like Warthog kernel at alllllll), my Pre3 was back and I began my usual routine of Preware, kernel, patch patch patch. When it came time to install UI Scale, it wouldn't work. For me, the offending patch was Ubercalendar, which this does not seem to play nice with. After uninstalling Ubercalendar, UI Scale installed cleanly and now I'm back with the Pre3 feeling just as slick as ever.

I have something interesting to report.
This patch fails to install on my Pre3. I removed ubercalender suspecting it might have some effect on installation of this patch. But even after Luna restart, patch failed to install. Ipkg log used to report ERROR: Additional file already exists in system file /usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.calendar/images/launcher/icon-1.PNG. I renamed this file to xicon-1.PNG Again try to install patch. No effect. Luna restart. Again try to install patch. ERROR: Additional file already exists in system file /usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.calendar/images/launcher/icon-10.PNG. I think everybody who has stock calender application on their device, will have these PNG files on their device in the same directory. So it looks like the problem of patch trying to install something in the wrong directory.

a quick swipe up on an icon shouldnt affect the removal of icons from the launch bar either as you need a long hold then swipe to remove an icon, i can see how some may want for example their web browser/email/etc available in a small grouping without eating up all the launch bar or more screen space, plus theres no real need to copy other OS's to that extreme imho. /end threadjack

I always wondered if there could be a way to make the quick launch shortcuts taller, where instead of just one row of four to six icons it can be expanded to a height of 3 or 4 rows tall. All other launcher page behaviors could stay the same and these quick launch icons could be more of a home page kind of look for faster access.
With the LunaCE card scaling, it would probably just need to scale the cards down to make sure everything is always visible and not covered up by anything.
