This patch allows video content to continue playing when the screen is minimized, dimmed or off in WebOS 3.0.0
This behaves similar to the same patch for WebOS 2.x. The only difference is the video in the card blacks out when minimized. The audio keeps playing. **NOTE** This patch only applies to videos played in the conventional 'video player' app. What's odd is there's no icon to launch the 'video player' app. It doesn't affect any video opened via the 'photo & videos' app. The patch doesn't apply to streamed videos since the default behavior for the browser is to continue playing audio in card mode. I don't think this is working for WebOS 3.0.2. I didn't have this patch for WebOS 3.0.0 but in 3.0.2, it's not working for any videos (streamed from youtube or local videos on my TouchPad). As soon as I minimize or dim the screen, videos stop playing (no audio, no video).
I'm also overclocking though, not sure if that makes a difference? I'm using the version 3.0.2-3 of this patch.

Well it can get a little confusing. There are several different ways to watch videos in WebOS 3.x in several different applications. This patch only applies to videos played in the conventional 'video player' app. What's odd is there's no icon to launch the 'video player' app. It doesn't affect any video opened via the 'photo & videos' app. The patch doesn't apply to streamed videos since the default behavior for the browser is to continue playing audio in card mode.
I overclock too. I haven't seen any issues with it affecting the patch. Try opening a video using Gemini, box.net, or Internalz. See if it works then? |

It would be really awesome, if a patch could be written to re-enable the playing of streamed videos in card mode. This was something that worked just fine in webOS 3.0.0, but unfortuantely has been turned of in 3.0.2. now only the audio plays, while the picture gets frozen in card mode.

I tried it again by opening a music video that is loaded locally on my Touchpad using Internalz and yes, the audio continues but the video blacks out. It would be nicer to have the video continuing in the background the way it does on the Pre. Is this possible with your patch?

Definitely not with the current patch. I'm not sure if it's possible to keep the video playing or not. I'll look and see if I can find anything that would let the video continue playing in card mode but it doesn't look promising. Sorry, that's the way I would prefer it to behave too.

How do you get to the "conventional video player app"? I apologize if that's a redundant question but it is not clear to me.
edit: btw are there any apps that allow playback of .FLV vids?

Thanks. Touchplayer worked perfectly. I hadn't installed it before since it said hd videos would be sluggish, but I had just copied over my video folder from my pc with no thought to the format they were in, and the native app didn't recognize them.
