I have been doing some brainstorming about what I would like to see on the topbar. It seems to me that there should be one super-topbar-patch to rule them all. Maybe that should be Statusbar Weather Widget, or maybe it should be a separate project.

My basic idea is to have the topbar completely customizable by the user. He would be able to select any of the items that normally appears in the topbar, and decide for himself if it should be displayed, and if so, where. Also, the user would be able to select between a 1 Line Statusbar or a 2 Line Statusbar.

All configuration would be done within Tweaks. I don't know how sophisticated Tweaks is right now, but some of my design relies on certain drop-down lists being populated based on earlier selections by the users.

Here is what I came up with:

    Code:
    2-LINE STATUSBAR POSITIONS

    [UL1] [UL2] [UC1] [UC2] [UR1] [UR2]
    [LL1] [LL2] [LC1] [LC2] [LR1] [LR2]

UL = upper left, LC = lower center, LR = lower right, etc.

    1-LINE STATUSBAR POSITIONS

    [L1] [L2] [C1] [C2] [R1] [R2]

    TWEAKS SETTINGS

    HEIGHT
    Statusbar Height (1 or 2) [2]

    WEATHER
    Current Conditions Icon (icon) [L1]
    Forecasted Conditions Icon (icon) [no]
Three-Day Forecast Icons (3 icons) [no]
    Current Temperature (ex. 8C) [no]
    Current Temp + High & Low (ex. 8C (9 2)) [UL2]
Current Conditions Text (ex. Sunny) [no]
Forecasted Conditions Text (ex. Partly Cloudy) [LL2]
Forecasted High & Low (ex. H:9 L:2) [no]
Forecasted Conditions + High & Low (ex. Partly Cloudy 9 2)	[no]
    City Name (ex. Vancouver) [no]

    TIME & DATE
    Short Time (ex. 6:41) [no]
Long Time (ex. 6:41 pm) [LC1]
    Short Date (ex. 04/16) [no]
Medium Date (ex. Sat Apr 16) [UC1]
Long Date (ex. Sat Apr 16 2011) [no]

    ICONS (Half-height icons for a 2-Line Statusbar)
    Status Icons [UR1]
    Include:	GPS Icon (G) [yes]
    		WIFI Icon (W) [yes]
    		Phone Icon (P) [yes]
    		Roaming Icon (O) [no]
    		Ringer Icon (R) [yes]
    		Battery Icon (B) [no]

    DEVICE STATS
    Battery % (ex. 100%) [LR2]
Battery Icon + % (ex. Icon 100%) [no]
    CPU Temp (ex. 32C) [LR1]
    Carrier (ex. Bell) [UR2]
    WIFI SSID (ex. Linksys) [no]

    EXAMPLE 2-LINE STATUSBAR

    |SUN | 8C (9 2)	Sat Apr 16	G W P R Bell
    |ICON| Partly Cloudy 6:41 pm 32C 100%

Sounds like a plan but a lot to pull off.

I don't care what anyone else says: This patch rocks. Can't wait until you get it fixed, you can keep it just the way it is, it looks pimp.

@ Garrett92c is any version compatible with sconix's advanced patches in 1.4.5? I have Advanced configuration for app launcher & advanced configuration for system preferences. I know you have workin on 2.X already.

got 1.5 working nicely, only issue I have is that when you have an app launched, the date (if you have the date in top bar patch) gets cut off to just the month, (the patch I have formats the date as DD/MM)

  9. #329
yeah i have the same thing but my format is mm/dd and i only get the day. still worth it right now. i know what month it is really the day is important. love the widget awesome work

Just installed 1.5 earlier today, and it appears to be working great, and no problems with the advanced menu patches.

Had the same problem with the date on top bar that others reported, and had to change the settings in tweaks for the battery percent and reboot for it to work correctly.

No other problems so far, thanks for working out the compatibility issues.

I just took it down from this thread since it's apparently buggy for some people... I'll post it here again once I get it fixed.

Yea, the Update Interval is in minutes.

I'll be adding font color settings once the Tweaks app supports text fields.

I agree! I was actually working on this a while ago. It was UMT-TopBar4... I even made an app (that was almost exactly like Tweaks) to control all the settings. Since I'm a noob, I never got it to work so I gave up. lol

Building such a massive patch wouldn't be too difficult. The main problem would be working around sconix's patches. They're very popular and do a lot of great stuff. I'd still love to play around with this idea though.

Wow. I was not expecting that reaction. But I really think this should be done. I would love to do this myself, or help someone, but I wouldn't know where to start.

Is it feasible for a complete noob to jump in to making patches? What would I need to learn? I have done some programming in my very distant past, but nothing recently. I do think I have the aptitude, though. I have a reasonable linux background.

Am I nuts to even be asking this?
